It's not your bad at all. It's just laughable that they think we're falling for that. Join the site 5 minutes before posting the first post refuting your review of a restaurant that's been open for all of a hot second. Those posts read like they came right from a corporate handbook. A little bit of genuine honesty from a company goes a long way. Would have been cooler to come here and say hey folks...sorry you had a bad time...we're hoping it's better soon...come check out our blah blah blah specials we'd love to have you. That fakey fake stuff irritates me.

If I was in management at Sushi Rock, I'd be pretty vociferous in defending my business, but I'd do it openly and honestly. Maybe these guys are sincere, but let's face it, the odds of that are pretty remote.
Tacky, very, very tacky.

Oh, and I will give them a little free promotion.
Here's their website: http://www.sushirockohio.com
If you want to give them your e-mail, they'll put you in their VIP club. Good for 20% off on Sundays.
Now give me an honest reason to want to go there.

so I will refrain from comment. To late.
Actually I felt bad for the waitress.
None of it was her fault. It has to be hard to tell customers that the only hot beverage is coffee and they don't have any soy sauce.
That's the equivalent of not having any syrup at the IHOPSeems more like if IHOP only had lite or sugar-free syrup.
That said, I appreciate and admire the fact that you feel badly for the waitress. You're right--it couldn't have been easy for her to deliver bad news to you repeatedly.
Thanks for the review. I didn't think there could be anything worse than Haiku (I felt like I really got ripped off there), but it seems like this one may be raising the bar. I'll wait for additional reviews to make an official judgement, but I doubt I'll try SushiRock anytime soon.

I am shocked at this review. I have been to Sushi Rock in Cleveland a number of times and loved everything about the place...the decor, the staff, the food, the music and yes even the low sodium soy sauce (its a healthier choice right). I have friends that have been to Columbus Sushi Rock and they really enjoyed everything about the place. I will be visiting my friends this weekend and I am looking forward to checking out the new restaurant. I will be sure to follow up. Dont give up on this place just yet, I have a feeling if it is anything like the other two Sushi Rock restaurants in Cleveland then it will be a great place to eat and hang out.Holy CRAP!
I'm astonished. Had the management proven to engage the community with honest discourse and disclosure of interest, i would have considered giving this place a shot. but this... this is an underhanded, pathetic and transparently manipulative tactic. sushi rock = pr failPosted 2 years ago # -
I understand that some of the problems that they were apparently having were pretty bad. But I ate there on Monday, and I thought everything was pretty good. The staff was nice, the prices were resonable, and the food was good. As a fellow restaurant owner in town, I can appreciate having tons of problems, when you first open up. Give them a couple of weeks to get everything straight, and try it out. My favorite part of Columbus, is that it is a very liberal city, with nice people that give a second chance...even to a loud Michigan Fan!! Support your city, and give them a chance to get their feet wet.

I have some really good friends who work at Sushi Rock, so I will refrain from comment. Although it is interesting to note that they didn't hire my 2 very qualified friends of color who applied there."Of color?" You mean non-white? The bartender working last night was non-white.
If you are going to refrain from comment, why imply they are racist?
People are not hired for all kinds of reasons, even very qualified people, often having to do with timing; at my last three jobs, we had tons of great people applying the time, but if there was no spot for them . . .okay.

I love this place (i.e. columbusunderground). It is a forum where restauraunt professionals, enthusiasts, and armchair critics come to argue about food & drink. It does become obvious, however, who the armchair critics are when they offer superlatives about an establishment that has been open for 72 hours. Don't hate untill the place is at least one month old, lest you find yourself in the ranks of jon christiansen (yuck!- don't even care if I misspelled).

Yeah, the place sounds horrible and all but I don't get the whole soy sauce debate. He indicated that they had low sodium soy sauce but later said that they had no soy sauce. What's the hang up with that? Do you really need the extra sodium in the regular version? Suck it up pansy.

Wow. It feels like the whole staff is joining in now. Good times.
Any anyone that knows and loves good sushi knows the difference in flavor between real soy sauce and that low salt nonsense.Posted 2 years ago # -

Admittedly, I probably wouldn't review (much less dine at) a restaurant in their opening month, but I don't know why you'd even open a place until you got the food part down. I can forgive forgetful servers, long waits, botched orders, weird atmosphere, terrible parking, high prices, etc…as long as you at least nail the food aspect of things.
I can appreciate Sushi Rock feeling the need to come on here & do some damage control, but these passive/aggressive one post wonders ain't doing it.

The Sushi Rock folks should read the Bristol Bar thread before they allow themselves to say anything else stupid.
THAT'S how you interact with potential customers.Posted 2 years ago # -
Yeah, SR management inviting people to come in for say, a happy hour with some discounted sushi appetizers would go much further towards demonstrating that "you have it together", rather than 5 people signing up on here to tell you that your opinion sucks, or you shouldn't have written a review in the first place.

I think the real people winning here are the folks over at Northstar. Sushi Rock taking some of our normal heat off of them! Maybe a $65 veggie burger isn't so bad after all... :p

This thread just makes me wanna go to Nidas, eat a heart attack roll, and a double spicy tuna roll and some tom kha and drink all of Viv's new cocktail menu.
Want sooooshi nowwwww.Posted 2 years ago # -
After reading all this, I come away with the feeling that if SR had been opened by someone that everyone knows and loves, the comments might have a decidedly different feel to them, maybe not so lynch mobby.
If the place truly had been opened for only 72 hours, I'd say a second chance - or more visits - would be appropriate. Isn't it common for restaurant reviewers to visit a place multiple times before writing a critique so that they have a broader view of how the place operates and how the food is?
I think we should not be so quick to trash SR and give them a chance to get on their feet down here. Maybe that's why nothing survives that corner of the cap - it gets torn down and ripped apart before it has a chance.

low sodium soy sauce is the warm milwaukees best light to my regular soy sauce frosty sapporo.

You'd think restaurant managers and owners could find a way to make their fake endorsements seem just slightly genuine. I'm not buyin it.Evidently my fault for sending the review into SR corp.

Since I had such a bad visit I wanted to give them the feedback so they could address it. I'd really prefer they fix things rather than close.
My bad.I think this was actually my fault. I e-mailed one of the managers the link to this thread the day before last, assuming they would use it as a source of honest feedback and maybe engage in some frank discussion about how to make things better--

Hi George,I'm a resident of the Short North and a huge proponent of area businesses. That being the case, I think you should keep an eye on this thread -- http://www.columbusunderground.com/forums/topic/sushi-rock-review -- on columbusunderground.com, which is a local message board where all topics related to Columbus (and particularly urban Columbus) are discussed. I hope you find the feedback helpful in making your establishment the best it can be. In the interest of full disclosure, you should know that I am NOT one of the commenters in the thread regarding your restaurant (yet :).
Best of luck to you and your team
------------------------------Boy was I naive. I mean, signing up under the name "sushi lover" right before making your first post? I really can't think of a move that would be more lame. I was planning on giving them a shot this weekend, but I've totally lost respect. Nida's here I come!
