New trailer aired during the superbowl. New SuperBowl Super 8 Trailer on Apple
I read this is a homage to Speilberg's movies of the early 80's like E.T. and Close Encounters. I really think JJ Abrams captured that feel in the trailer (especially the music). This is my most anticipated movie of 2011 by far.

Yeah, it looks incredible. It was filmed not too far away in Weirton, West Virginia and at a tiny airport in Wheeling, West Virginia and apparently they shut down the downtown of Weirton several times for scenes. Locals were none too happy. lol

I saw it and loved it. It's very Spielburg like and really took me back to the days of watching ET and The Goonies. They even set the movie in 1979. Felt like a very well done throwback.
More about issues faced in childhood than a monster action film.

Roland hit the nail on the head. I thought it was done really well. I love walking into movies where I get enveloped by the story enough that it is like reading a book.
I also think love scenes in movies like this are so much better than boring romantic movies that come out.

*** DON'T THINK I'M PUTTING SPOILERS HERE, BUT HERE'S MY DISCLAIMER JUST IN CASE ***
Saw it over the weekend. It was weird - it's like it had everything going for it but something was just ... missing. Maybe it's that we never got to connect with the alien or that the air force guy was two dimensionally bad. I don't know. It wasn't bad by any means, but it's not something I'll ever feel the need to see again. And coming from Speilberg and Abrams, that's pretty sad.
