Where have you gone and/or where are you going?
Looking for inspiration. ;)

I spent 4 days in Chicago during Pitchfork and didn't want to come home.
I'm going to Cinci (not really a vacation, but it's not Columbus) for 3 days in September for Midpoint Music Fest. (ok so it's not really summer either)
I'll be in Austin for 5 days over Halloween...yeah not summer either, but Austin is still awesome. :)
We have a cool trip coming up: West Coast road trip. We're flying into Seattle, staying w/ friends and driving east to see Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Grand Canyon; down to Phoenix and Southern CA to visit family; up the PCH to San Fran, Portland, Olympia; and flying out of Seattle.
Any suggestions for stuff to do/eat along this route are more than welcome!
We got back from Albuquerque/Santa Fe, New Mexico a little over a week ago. I was excited about going, but less about the location and more about getting away for a bit. After being there for only a few hours, we were where we want to be! Cant wait to go back, and possibly not return. 3-4 years is the plan. Maybe sooner if life allows.
ETA: oh, and we're headed to Chicago for a few days next weekend for the ol'1-year anniversary! Ray's Bucktown Bed & Breakfast, FTW!
San Francisco in late May/early June to visit my sister. Visited a few museums: deYoung, Legion of Honor, Museum of Modern Art. Went to Rodeo Beach. Visited an aunt and a high school friend in Cupertino. The drive from Cupertino back to San Francisco was the most beautiful drive I ever took. It was during sunset, and the clouds/fog over the mountains was absolutely breathtaking.
We delayed our trip to Indianapolis earlier this summer, and then have been carless for awhile and not had a chance to make it out for a vacation yet. Think of hitting up someplace new on the Atlantic Coast followed by a trip down to Alabama to visit relatives.
Anyone have suggestions on an Atlantic beach? Something non-touristy but full of fun things to do? ;)

I love Santa Fe. I had a place there right off of Agua Fria for a little while, but was and still am too young to fully appreciate that city.
I do wanna go back sometime. I haven't been in a while.
Just got back from 4 days in Chicago. Took a motorcycle trip out to the East Coast with some camping and city visits mixed in. That's pretty much it.
Hitting a B&B in Sugar Creek in September. Going to see friends in Buffalo in October. Nothing else until the big trip to Scotland in April of next year.

Do NOT miss out on Big Star on Damen right by the blue line stop...freakin a-maz-ing. Order like 8 zillion pork belly tacos and bring some in your suitcase fer me. ;)
Oh...and it's a hell of a wait so go about an hour before you know yer hungry...they'll take yer cellie number and call when you have a table.
Headed to a beach house on Brigantine, on the Jersey Shore (Snookie not included) tomorrow, surf, work, surf, grill, work, return to the city Friday, rally, house hunt, rinse, repeat, hello September.
Going to a lake-house in western NY in a couple of weeks for a long weekend.
Went up there earlier this summer and had a great time just relaxing by the water, hiking through Letchworth, and cooking huge meals for everybody to enjoy.
Apart from that, I'm going to spend a weekend in Cleveland in late September/early October with my cousin to show me around his favorite spots.

We went to Albuquerque/Santa Fe for our 15th anniversary and loved it. We went as much because we like Gruet as any other reason.
We just got back from Topsail Island NC. (I took a side trip to Pa for my Grandmother's funeral [95!])
We visited my Sister in Lancaster Pa. earlier in July-She has an L shaped pool w/a diving board. She blew out birthday candles from the pool and so did my 9 year old. Lancaster is a surprisingly hip city-its not just for the Amish anymore...

I'm a big fan of the Chesapeake Bay area. Check out VRBO.com for rental houses - that's the right way to do that region. Assateague Island has huge stretches of fairly abandoned beaches. Had a vacation planned out there in early July, but had to cancel again and again due to work and family emergencies. We're hoping to finally take our "summer" vacation in October, but probably somewhere further south that late in the year. We really need a break!
Scotland.
I need a new kilt. I bought it out of college when I had a 30" waist and weighed 120 pounds.
I've gone up about 20% since then.
I normally spend at least 4 full days at cabins in the Blue Ridge mountains, outside Floyd, VA at some point during the summer.... I haven't done it this year and am REALLY missing it. No cell service, no TV - just outdoors, books, conversation and cocktails.
I'm going to have to do something to get out of town, because I'mma lose my mind... maybe take myself camping.
I love the Outer Banks. It's a bit of a haul from here, and I don't know what all there is to do other than hiking up lighthouses, the ocean, the marshes, lolling about and not being eaten by sharks.
If you are headed to Alabama, there is a great park in TN called Falls Creek Falls - it's a fantastic park, lots of different lodging options, and a lot of good nature to see. Might be a good place to spend a couple-three days on the way down.
I'm leaving for the Olympic Pennisula in the monring, for 9 days. (Longest vacation I've taken in almost a decade!)
Nothing new; I have family that have a house overlooking the Straits, and I've gone up often since I was 12. Hiking, kayaking, watching the wildlife, snacking on those sweet Dungeness crabs.
And the daytime highs are in the upper 70's I believe...
went to Clevleand Indians game over the weekend, weather was perfect! Might go to New Orleans or somewhere in Nov.

Don't forget the oysters and geoducks!

Be sure to check out North Portland, especially Amnesia Brewing and Laurelwood Public House, if you like beer.
