It's that time of year again! We're conducting our annual "BEST OF" reader's survey. Every year we try to add a few categories or remove ones that have grown stale in order to keep it interesting.

Not sure about the best mode of transportation category.. around here wouldn't that just alternate between bike and bus every year depending which has gotten extra attention/money that year? I guess it's good to draw attention to them.
What about a best local charity/organization? It would be good to familiarize people with them.. more attention and more people knowing the good they're doing could draw more money their way. I was just thinking the other day I have no idea what local charities are around, though I'm sure they're around here somewhere.

Yeah, transportation is a bit stale. Perhaps there's a better way to do that.
I like the idea of local charities or nonprofits. Good call!

As someone else mentioned, perhaps a Best Fitness Offering.
Additionally, perhaps subdivide the "Best Store" category a bit more, into something like:
Apparel
Furniture & Decor
Wine & Spirits
Special Foods
As for the restaurant categories, I feel like "Best Cheap Eats" vs. "Best Restaurant" kind of doesn't account or leave room for the mid-price points to get noticed/commented on. I.e. Places that aren't "cheap" but are definitely more casual and affordable may not have a place for recognition alongside higher-end and fine dining options.

In the past I've avoided dividing things up *too* much to keep the poll from being 100 questions long. But if people are asking for it (as you are) then some new subdivisions may be in order. ;)

My wife and I have been discussing this, but maybe a 'best neighborhood for a family' would also be a nice category. A lot of neighborhoods have amenities geared for different things and maybe this would create some dialog about them. Raising children seems to be a topic which is coming up more and more.
