I'm guessing that since a lot of regulars probably come from the UE bus from OSU that Skyy Bar will see a temporary increase in business.
Is Sky Bar still open?

Some people are upset about any local business closing. Some people aren't. The site isn't hypocritical if individuals have opposing viewpoints.Really? See how Pilsner is treated in most threads.
lol
Think that's more of a personality thing vs. a difference of opinions.
I know I have gone toe to toe with some of the folks here when it comes to my stances on cycling, yet I still get a fair amount of respect on and off line. If you don't come across as a complete prick, people here tend to treat you pretty well.
Also, I think Columbus *does* have some bars and clubs for everyone, not just the frat-boy crowd; they're just not run by C & G and they're not on Park St. I don't think most of the people who would want to go to an "alternative" club to the Park St. model would want that alternative club to be right next to Brothers, Gaswerks, (former) Spice, (former) Sugar, Park St. Patio, Bar Louie, etc.
I don’t think I’m judging anyone by their outward appearance. I do think they are judging me. I think we've all heard the stories about how black people get a hard time whenever they frequent Mike and Chris’s establishments. And yah, they employ a 100 people but I’ve heard personally from female bartenders who got treated really unprofessionally. I don’t think the judgments some people are making are baseless. If you treat your patrons badly in order to get the “right†crowd or you sexually harass your staff you may need to change a few things. So let’s not kid ourselves. These guys aren’t saints coming to save the arena district from unemployment. They are opportunists and I applaud them for capitalizing on a prospect. But don’t tell me I’m judging them when they have already made the “business†decision to target a market segment and exclude all others in the most brutal fashion. Just cause you run a bar doesn’t mean that ethics is optional.

Here, here. Agree w/ TT and Neil.
I've been witness to Cleveland (Flats) and Cincinnati (Main Street) club districts where once the original concepts ran their course, bars closed, and took the neighborhoods with them.
Thank goodness that the Park Street powers-that-be acknowledge this and are constantly adapting (even if it's still not really yours or my thing).
+3
I may not like their bars but they have been holding the cbus club scene down forever it seems, you can't knock their hustle, respect.

nope, not for several months or longer.
It's been more than a year.
There are lessons to be learned from the Flats. It would be nice to see more diversity but it does seem to be working at the present time.

Citing an example of an outlier doesn't make your case for the majority of people who fit into the normal distribution. No pun intended.
I haven't been into Sugar in years (maybe a couple months) so I'm interested to see what they do in that space.
Would love to see a sports bar with good TVs and someone who has an actual clue running the TVs. I mean, it's awful. If you're a sports fan, it's very frustrating being at most bars at night because they never have the right channel on. Whatever, I'm just being picky.
But really, the only places with any sort of clue about what stations to have on the air is Eddie George's and The Little Bar (both on campus). I'd have to think a legit sports bar would do well in the Arena District.
@Hamsterdam - You just may be on to something there, but odds are that G&C wouldn't do that, but rather go more in the vein of "club" (i.e., dance music, people dressing up to go out and drink/dance, etc...) - anyone can do a sports bar, these two have been operating clubs for years and doing it successfully, and keeping up to date with trends and whatnot. Kudos to them, even if I don't go to those types of spots but very rarely. Hopefully, their next venture is just as successful.

Gateway Sky Bar?
Yeah, dollar well nights made for a great weekend.
The music sucked, hopefully that will be the first thing to change. Probably not though, because the music sucks at the Cantina, and that's new, oh well.
