Like it/them (Mike and Chris) or not, it seems fairly obvious that they a masters of their trade. They consistently create bars/clubs that are packed week-to-week even with concepts that amaze me they can make work. I do not think Sugar Bar is hurting for business. I have not been there in years but it seems every time I pass the place it’s packed and there’s a line out the door. I think they are being great business men and recognize it’s time for a change; time to recreate the space to continue to hold on to their dominance in the club market in this city. Their success in this town can not be denied.
Sure, I would love to see them open a club that’s more suited to my personal tastes but it’s very easy to sit back and make judgments when you’re not the one putting up money, paying the bills, and/or answering to investors. I have seen many ‘good’ clubs go under due to lack of support while at the same time listen to people complain about the success of the very bars that someone ‘tried’ to provide an alternative. I am sure as business men if they could open an establishment that caters to the crowd, music, etc. that is not “doucheyâ€Â, “frat-boyishâ€Â, etc. they would be the first in line to do it.
If you/we want to see different establishment open with a ‘better’ clientele we need to go out and support the places that are already there AND make our presence known in the area so they can see that all their money doesn’t come from that aforementioned wrong crowd. Believe me, if you/we do that there will be changes. Otherwise, let the place succeed for what it is and always will be.
Personal note: Admittedly, I am not one who practices what I preach most times but it still does not make it any less true.
