Although Gov. Ted Strickland’s job approval rating is at its lowest point of the year, the governor appears to be in a strong position to win re-election in 2010, according to a new poll released Wednesday.
The survey showed that 46% of respondents would vote for the Democratic governor, while 26% said they would support an unidentified Republican.
Quinnipiac University also found that former U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine is the best-known of three potential GOP challengers. Former U.S. Reps. John Kasich and Rob Portman are not well known to 75% of voters.
The survey also shows that U.S. Sen. George Voinovich could face a tough campaign in 2010, with 36% saying he should have another term and 35% lending support for an unnamed Democrat.
