I bet that there is as much damage as when hurricane Ike came to town. I'm as prepared for a week without power as I've ever been.

There is a huge tree down across the street whose roots lifted the sidewalk into a vertical position. Big Old Tree.

When walking in these older neighborhoods it is often easy to see where an old tree has met its fate. I walk past an uprooted sidewalk daily which I am sure was caused by a similar incident.
edited to add - Damn, my sidewalk is not that bad. Ouch, the house too. That is a big event.

The tree stump on the right in that photo was freshly snapped today, too.

You know how to prepare for a week long power outage? Book a beach house well in advance of the storm and have your house-sitting brother deal with the power outage.

I was in St. Thomas US Virgin Islands for hurricanes Luis and Marilyn. We lost power for three months! Island wide! There were a few offices that had generator power. I would go to my regular office (which had no electricity) then head over to Internal Revenue for a few hours to charge up my laptop. A friend of mine across the street from my place had a generator. I would go over there to have dinner and watch tv. But then I would walk across the street in the dark to go home. It is not a good thing to use a flashlight to find your way through your apartment to your bed, especially in tropical heat where you cannot even run a fan to keep cool. I used a portable camp stove to heat water to shave with. Fun stuff.

Gas range + lighter + hand crank coffee mill + Chemex = darn good coffee (autocorrect says Cheney instead of Chemex). I forgot to mention the freshly roasted beans from Burundi. I think Ann from A Touch of Earth said that they were from the awesome Cafe Brioso. Yeah, if I can get a good night's sleep tonight, I'm ready.

Clintonville got hit pretty hard. Lots of branches - big and small - littering our street in Glen Echo. A big branch on our tree out front cracked off and landed perfectly across our front yard and the neighbor's. No damage to the houses or nearby cars, thank goodness. I heard it fall - I thought a rocking chair had flipped over on our porch.

Yeah; from my impression here in north Clintonville, this one was EVERY BIT as bad as the Hurricane Ike remnants that hit us in 2008, if not worse. Lots of broken trees and telephone/power poles here. Looks like we're going to be without power for a long, long time.

I was on 315 N at Ackerman (~4:30) when I saw a horizontal dust cloud moving from west to east about 100 yards in front of me. It looked and felt like a tornado. There was debris 100+ feet in the air and cars were pretty much doing whatever desired. It was intense. I've been in a tornado before and this felt very similar. When I got off at N Broadway, there were tree limbs and random debris everywhere. We are staying at the Grandview Yard Hyatt since we don't have power and as I was getting back on 315S to come down here, I noticed the billboard advertising for Riverside that sits at the ENB exit near across the freeway from the hospital was a mangled mess of twisted metal. Very intense few minutes in my little Honda Fit to say the least!

I also saw massive plumes of smoke of what looked like a pretty strong fire west and just north of Lennox. Anybody know anything?

I'm really surprised our power is still out. It came back on for 30 seconds around 7pm, but then went back off. The streetlights are all off around here too, rendering the street pitch black outside.
Hope this is resolved tonight...

Via WSYX:

Crews are forced to let two trucks burn in the Upper Arlington area after a power line fell on the vehicles near Kinnear and Kenny Roads. The burning vehicles can't be approached until electric workers can shut off the power.
