My understanding is that when both bridges are completed, they will be one-way pairs. Main St. will be eastbound and Rich/Town will be westbound.
Unfortunately, you are uninformed. The proposed 70/71 split fix will have negative impacts on downtown residential housing which most CU readers are totally unaware of and quite frankly I am surprised concerning their general interest in downtown development and particularly residential housing.
ETA You may want to ask ODT how they plan to provide access to over 200 downtown residential units with the Mound/Fulton alternative with the proposed Mound Street one-way westbound elevated ramp and the current Main Street being one-way eastbound. It's not physically possible. Thus, the forced changes to the signature Main Street Bridge which was designed to be a one-way bridge but will now have to be converted to a two-way bridge. Another example of ineptitude with respect to urban planning, just as the proposed Rich Street bridge which no longer has a useful function given the fact that Town Street is no longer a major thorough fare through downtown anymore. Once again, it appears that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
FYI When opened, the new Main Street bridge will connect Franklinton to downtown Columbus. A pedestrian/bike bridge connecting Veterans Memorial to the Arena District would be more useful as would a simple pedestrian/bike bridge over the former Town Street bridge.
