Apple Visionary Steve Jobs Dies At 56

Steve Jobs — the man who brought us the iPhone, the iPod and the iMac — has died. The co-founder of Apple was 56 years old. Jobs had been battling a rare form of pancreatic cancer for years.
"It boggles the mind to think of all the things that Steve Jobs did," says Silicon Valley venture capitalist Roger McNamee, who worked with Jobs.

on G4 they just re-ran a half-hour bio-doc they did the week steve stepped down the 1st time. it felt way more like an obit piece, even though i saw it when it ran before as well.
they're doing an hour-and-a-half special tonight at 11. should be really good.

I often lamented the fact that so many people fawned over Jobs while someone like Bill Gates was doing so much for the people of this world with the Gates Foundation and was often vilified by ignorant geeks.
But we all have our roles to play in life, and Jobs was a legend. He changed so many preconceived notions in his industry, and had the instinct to believe that the customer didn't always know what they wanted, until they got it.
I love his inventions, they truly have changed the world, and it's a sad night to see him die so young.

yeah, i've had similar conversations with folks at the bar. the B&MGF is just a mind-blowing force for betterment. most recently when the "apple has more $$$ than the US" headlines broke, i was wondering what kind of "good" they could bring by focusing on some philanthropic tax-write-offs.
you know what'd be truly awesome? tomorrow, tim cook comes out, while everyone is still feeling the emotion of this and says "you know what? we're apple. in honor of steve, we're gonna cure cancer. we'll match, dollar for dollar, every donation an individual makes, from our more-than-the-US-govt amounts of cash we have and we're gonna put apple-quality minds to work in apple ways, and we're gonna figure this out."
just imagine that.
(plus, i could see it pulling stock prices back up and solidifying faith in the tim-led apple when people realize "ok, even without steve, some amazing shit's gonna happen in cupertino!)
but then again, planetTJ is always way cooler than earth . . .
