Crossing my fingers for some kind of "major" announcement.
Would be nice to see the Broad Street road-diet finally move forward. Or more ambitiously, a pair of streetcar lines (whetstone to schiller park, casino to capital university, etc).
I would hope, that this being Columbus' 200th birthday, that this SOTC would be chalk full of "major" announcements and pizzaz. I'm hoping to be wowed.
Major announcements means happy citizen :)
From Mayor Coleman's twitter a few minutes ago. Anyone want to take some guesses??
@MichaelBColeman - Can't wait to reveal our BIG surprise at the 2012 State of the City Address. Hope to see everyone there.
I'd love to hear that the Streetcar is back on track (pun intended). No real clue as to what the big announcement might actually be...
Yeah, the street car is what immediately comes to mind - it certainly would be the best time and place to announce it, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. It is mostly the reason I'll be going though- just in case!
Lady Gaga popping out of a cake? That would be a surprise. :-)
Hmm.. maybe it is a plan for mass transit in Central Ohio and will announce public AND private investment from surrounding suburbs...i can dream cant I?
How do we even know he has a major announcement? I highly doubt mass transit will even be on his list of stuff to talk about. He'll talk about the recycling program. He'll talk about Columbus Pride and how the city will be continuing the celebration. He'll talk about our Kids, and how they are important to our future, so we should invest in them. He'll talk about Jobs, because who doesn't like a politician who talks about job growth! Might talk about college affordability/Joe Bidens efforts. Plus whatever else will affect the citizens of Columbus. If high gas prices are on the list, I'm sure he will talk about COTA initiatives in providing the citizens with better public transportation.
I think I get the reference. He will dance on a floor-keyboard with Tom Hanks.
Tonight. Looking forward to the annual update and any announcements. ;)
If he says anything about mass transit, it'll be about the BRT study already previously announced, in which case it's nothing new and Columbus will continue to be one of the largest cities without significant alternative transit.
Other than that, I can't imagine what would be big. New skyscraper? New HQ moving here? Already announced art projects around town? Finally implementing the years old recycling plan? He and Frankie are getting back together?
I expect some sense of letdown coming.
wonderland buying a building.
I am betting its a monorail.
It looks like the Mayor's spokesman is trying to downplay expectations:
"Williamson said there’s at least one new proposal in the speech, although he didn’t want to go as far as that Twitter promise of a BIG surprise."

Yeah, the letdown begins... unless it's all a trick and it's an even bigger announcment?! Nah.
