Anyone else hear that he left and is opening a new resturant called Louie's Grill?

I ate there today...basically a copy of the Starliner, and just as good. Maybe swampkitty should do a review?

Where is it?

Good news but why over in Hilliard again? You would think the like Starliner Diner niche would be filled by, um, Starliner Diner? Put 'er near downtown there Louie. While it's the best Tex/Cub Mex in Columbus I'll take something like Golden West in Baltimore anyday over Starliner.

Maybe they thought that since Starliner usually has a line out the door for breakfast/lunch, you could just head down the road and get right in! Plenty of seating...

I've eaten at the new place and liked it, but my impression is that it was not as good as Starliner. I also like the charm of the original place.
Too early for judgement though. I'll go back to Loiue's any day.

I've been to this place 3 times now, and have tried beef, chicken, and fish, and all have been outstanding...
Can this topic get moved over to Dining?

It's on my "to do" list, so expect a review in a few weeks once I've got Restaurant Week out of my system (am in the middle of dining out burnout at the moment). Although, I've got to say that the menu is very close to Starliner's...

Made it to Louie's a couple of weeks ago, and if my experience was any indication, then I'd have to say that Louie's is no Starliner Diner. Not even close.

I like it there alot...just so far.

I've been there a few times and I've been going to Starliner regularly. With exception of the plantains, everything else is found better at Starliner.
The menu is almost exactly the same. Some signature dishes have been renamed and an extra veggie or something added to differentiate. The good side to this is the fact that Starliner has always had great food. The downside for Louie's is that they will always be compared to Starliner.
I work with people who love Louie's and I think it's alright myself, but if given a choice I would always pick the original Starliner.
Louie needs needs to get a designer in there quick, dayum... lol

+1 on the designer. We were amused by the random posters of Paris and the Lake District.
Also noisy, given the number of people there.I have to say that nothing would entice me to go there again. The portions are huge but my soup was cold and congealed and I took two bites of my entree and couldn't face any more. It was supposed to be ropa vieja but was full of canned sweetcorn and not like any other variation of this dish I have had previously.
The jambalaya was passable but it was no Creole Kitchen.

I ate there a couple weeks back as well and, yeah, it's no Starliner. I'd hate to see them do poorly, but the food wasn't very good. Certainly not good enough to make me want to return when I can just go to Starliner, with virtually the same menu, and KNOW it's good. It's a shame.

Tidy setting shows off Mexican fusion menu

FOR THE COLUMBUS DISPATCHBilled as a fusion restaurant, Louie's Grill in Hilliard offers mostly Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes, with a smattering of Cajun, Cuban and Southwestern influences.
It was recently founded by veterans of the well-known Starliner Diner, which is still going strong farther west on Cemetery Road.

They must have really stepped it up -- and changed the artwork since I went.
This is what surprised me the most:
"Louie's large, plain and clean space is decorated with artifacts and artwork in line with the south-of-the-border fusion claims"Surprised they got 3.5 stars -- although maybe not -- I think every review I have read of his is 3.5 stars.

Just had their breakfast. It was good, really good. It was as good as the breakfasts I have had at Starliner and we were one of 3 tables instead of waiting 20 minutes to be seated. I had jalepeno cornbread topped with scrambled eggs& covered in sausage gravy with home fries on the side. D had the Fusion Scrambled Eggs- vegetarian& it came with black beans& tortilla chips. We will be back. Also the servers were incredibly friendly& told us that breakfast is served all day on Sunday, until 3 on Saturday& 11 during the week but if we ask, they will make it anytime! Bonus :D!
