So yeah, no one else has mentioned it yet, so I thought I would... Starcraft II has been announced.
I watched the gameplay demo they have on the official site and it looks pretty impressive.
I was a big fan of Warcraft I and II back in the day and loved Starcraft I (and Brood Wars). It was great because you could play 8-way multiplayer games via dialup and not have it lag too much.
I thought Warcraft III was a bit weak because it focused more on the RPG elements and penalized players for trying to build larger armies. I never got into WoW either because I don't have time for MMORPGs.
But yeah, StarCraft II looks like a fine sequel so far. Hopefully it still concentrates on large-scale battles and little-to-no RPG elements outside of the single-player campaign.

I did see this. I was never into it as much as some of my friends were, but I do remember having fun playing it over a LAN a few times. I played through about half the single player mode.
If my computer can run this, I'll probably pick it up. Blizzard makes the best CGI cinematics IMO. With Squaresoft (final fantasy) coming in at a close second.

I was a huge huge starcraft nerd. I worked myself into the top 500 on battle net when I was hardcore. and top 100 on the Kalli network. Wow that's geeky :p yes I have seen the trailer for the new one, I just hope they don't ruin it by making it too complex. That is what was the problem with warcraft 3. All that crap with leveling "hero" characters in your army I thought was just dumb. I want to use strat to build your army faster than the next guy and then beat him to the punch on attacks.
Then again I am addicted to EQ2 so starcraft is dead to me :p

Good news! I just read in Game Informer that StarCraft 2 will have absolutely no rpg elements (no hero units) and a 300 total unit limit. Sounds like the old amass and trash philosophy still will apply to this game.
So far it doesn't seem very different at all from Sc1.Normally that would be a bad thing but we're talking about Starcraft here. :D

I've got an older iteration of the high-end MBP (MA611LL/A). Got it nearly 3 years ago... 2.33GHz Core2Duo, 2GB 667 DDR2, RadeonX1600 256MB Video Card.

I did upgrade the HD to a larger 320GB, but that really won't make a difference for gaming. And I can only bump the ram up to 3GB, so I haven't bothered to do that.

It might be another year before I'm ready to get a new one. These systems do seem to hold their value fairly well, so perhaps I can resell it. Someone's got a used one for sale on Amazon for $1700, and mine recently had the motherboard & processor replaced as well as a new battery, so it's got some newer parts in it.

Hrmmm....

that rumor has been out since WOW was released. I hardly think they would risk pulling players away from the biggest MMO out there, to try another one of their products. The drop off in wow players is not nearly big enough to put more resources into another giant. Many MMOs have come and gone while WOW is still king. I personally never liked WOW and am a eq2 player. But I respect what WOW is.

now RTS starcraft 2.... I've been waiting for so long...

Well as far as releases dates go it will probably be staggered with the first shipping possibly for xmas 09 (unless it gets pushed back again which it probbaly will since it's blizzard. all they they say on the starcraft battle.net forums is they are shooting for a beta release in 2009)

My understanding is there will be threeStarcraft II games. Each one probably costing 50~60 bucks and each one containing a single races' solo campaign (terran, Protoss , Zerg).With Terran being released first(I think?). Unsure about multiplayer but I think one game might be all you need to access all races/units for that
