There apparently will be a 9 minute preview of the film attached to the IMAX release of THE HOBBIT Part I.
Also, some names have been given. The villain is named John Harrison. Some people are still hoping he is just Khan Noonian Singh under an alias. In the trailer he appears to be wearing Starfleet uniforms. He may be a disgraced Starfleet officer who becomes a terrorist.
The blonde woman who appears in 2 shots in the trailer will be Dr. Carol Marcus (which was the name of a character who first appeared in STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN; she was he mother of Kirk's son).

I thought I read it was not so much a 9 minute preview, but the first 9 minutes of the movie. (subject to editing)
So we take a 2 and a half hour movie and add a 9 minute preview plus all the other previews. Hope the chairs are comfy.

Yes, I read that the "preview" is supposedly the first 9 minutes of the film. Sorry for my sloppy language.

I'm still guessing the villain is Gary Mitchell.

I'm definitely seeing this film but does anyone else feel as if the preview does not evoke that "Star Trek" feeling?

Pretty sold on it being Khan after the Super Bowl commercial.
The whole "I'm better at everything" line seems pretty genetically engineered superhuman to me.

Could it be because it doesn't appear so space or Enterprise-focused? I might actually kinda see that, except for the fact that some of the best plots in the series have taken place on the ground, or in situations in which the Enterprise was either merely in the background or completely out of commission (e.g. Star Trek IV).
I know some fans don't exactly favor Abrams' shaky cameras and lens flares. All I'm saying its it's a little more tolerable than Rick Berman's later season Star Trek: The Next Generation plots which humdrummed on for 52 minutes, and then crammed in the climax and turning point within in a 45 second window just before the closing credits.

Things you can expect from an Abrams type production.
Lens Flare
Some shakey cam (not to the extent of the Bourne movies, but there will be some)
A McGuffin of extraodinary magnitude
A scene where the hero is stranded somewhere without any tools, equipment, etc....
A scene where significant action happens off camera
A closeup of someones eye dilating
Not much slo motion or explosives (take that Michael Bay)Posted 3 months ago # -
I probably shouldn't post this, but my significant other keeps muttering that it is turning into Star Wars. ;)

I just read this amazing book about a man who came from an African village, went away for a while and was educated at Western schools, then came back to the village. At one point he brought back an episode of Star Trek and showed it to the villagers. He said they don't have a concept of fiction there so they thought the whole thing was real. They immediately recognized Mr. Spock as a being from their underworld. Then they all expressed amazement because supposedly white people are supposed to be very smart, and these white people were supposed to be in the future, but all the villagers knew how to do things like teleport. What was so great about that?!
I got a good chuckle out of that story, especially the Mr. Spock part.

Sounds sort of like the movie Galaxy Quest.

Wait, what? They know how to teleport?
They say they do. According to this: http://www.amazon.com/Of-Water-Spirit-Initiation-African/dp/0140194967/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
I usually take earth-based shaman tracts with a grain of salt, as they usually end up being baseless, ego-maniacal New-Age drivel, but this one seems legit.
Every once in a while, the naturalist's adage that "nature doesn't match what's in the book, the book matches nature" seems very appropriate to heed. We don't know everything. To know everything, as Spock would say, would be illogical.

That's fantastic, sadly the game doesn't spark much interest though.

This clip reminds me of a scene from GALAXY QUEST

Being a lifelong Trek fan I thought I'd have some fun by writing up a piece about Star Trek's Most Cringe Worthy Movie Moments.
