Columbus, Ohio: Where cool is king

Columbus is not just another pretty college town (although more than 55,000 students enjoy the museums, galleries and rich traditions at Ohio State). Like Jeni, many other creative, artistic people have made Columbus their home base, including world-renowned cartoonist Paul Palnik, who has a studio in the vibrant Short North. Some of the biggest players in mainstream fashion are headquartered here — Victoria’s Secret, Abercrombie & Fitch, Express — to take advantage of the burgeoning design community fostered by the Columbus College of Art & Design and Ohio State’s art department.

Fair enough. I suppose the drive of individuals does express hard work. Yet, I don't understand yet how that enshrouds a city beyond individual success. This thread has not asked for abstracts, so my thinking has failed in regards to posting.

"cool" is a tired word used up in the sixties, I may have reacted to that exhausted term.

Let's say that pointing out the used up copy cat idea's of those in the articles should somehow benefit to the growth of the city seems absurd. Perhaps a bit of pioneering should be heralded, not the tired retread.

Edit: I like Jeni's ice cream. I don't wish to harm their success, just the highlights of that article creates a feel good aura that isn't met by the myriad of
issues that are faced in this city.

Are you referring to any issues faced by Columbus in particular? Aside from the albatross of Nationwide Arena, I don't know of any truly specific and salient problems facing Columbus that don't face almost every other major city. (And quite often, those other issues are far more prevalent in other cities--crime, deferred maintenance of public infrastructure, corruption among elected leaders, etc.)

Yeah, this puffed up stance for Columbus, patting yourself on the back gets rather old with glaring issues.

Apparently, you don't know anything different, so insensitive phrasing, the hungry child giggles makes sense.
