So I get alot of spam emails. It really doesn't bother me to much because it's just a quick click of the delete button and its gone. But occasionaly I read them. I just don't get it, what are the spammers trying to accomplish. This is one I just got, what's the hook? What are they trying to sell??

i was just discussing with my friends at happy hour yesterday that the easiest job in the world (other than petition firm or whatev) would be "spam email creator"... to be the person who types up spam emails. that would be nice.
i cant find the exact quote but in last months GQ michel gondry said that when he cant sleep, he responds to his spam email. something like "dear so and so, thanks for the tip about male enhancement. im currently okay but please keep me up to date on any other products you think may be of interest to me."

The thing that always amazes me is that there would be no spam unless some people are buying the stuff. Just like telemarketing. Who buys male enhancement pills of dubious composition and provenance over the internet from an unsolicited email featuring a naked cartoon holding a coathanger around his penis? (that's one that's been getting through our filters at work.)

I suspect that the wackiness of the spam may relate to the spam filtering devices. I think some spam filtering devices look at the first sentence, some review for specific words, others may look at the last sentence, etc etc etc.
In that one, it looks like they were trying to fool the spam filters by making the porn email look like a real letter by having the first and last sentences (or sections of sentences) look like normal correspondence.
but since I know literally NOTHING about spam filtering software, that is just a wild guess on my part.
One of my online friends used to make Haikus out of the random word generation that some spam would start with. Some of them were pretty brilliant.
