My love of The White Stripes and the laidback alt-rock of Brendan Benson make my complete lack of interest in The Raconteurs, their collaborative project, somewhat odd. I don't detest that band; I just think that it combines the duller parts of those songwriters, rather than the most exciting.

I'll point out my own oversight not writing about House of Heroes sooner, knowing now that the band has opened for Silverchair and other big names around the country. But if you're not one for resumes, just click to the above link and listen to "In the Valley of the Dying Sun," a great song with a killer title.
Everything from the riffs to the recording is impressive, quite well done, and this track is driven by a familiar, catchy blend of emo, metal, indie and post-punk. What makes it stand out -- both from contemporary artists and from other tracks on their album -- is an expert mesh of a handful of different feels, giving the song the epic feeel you expect with a title like "In the Valley of the Dying Sun."

Local emceee Blueprint has been known as much for supporting the Ohio hip-hop scene as for creating great music by himself, with his Weightless Records crew and as part of Soul Position. This time around, he's created an album-long homage to the early work of the great Funkadelic, one half of George Clinton's genius.
It's a perfect fit: Killer soul riffs and spacey, futuristic meandering coupled with Print's emphatic, thoughtful delivery.
