Completely random question but does anyone know a restaurant or better yet a caterer (sp?) that does Somali food?

Columbus is pretty amazing actually- 2nd largest Somali population in the county behind Minneapolis/St Paul.
You'd think we'd have more restaurants...

I've gone to Calanley Restaurant before and been quite satisfied. Haven't been there for some time though, so I don't know if it's still open. It's at Cleveland Avenue and Oakland Park.

a few weeks ago I was chatting with my cabbie, and he was Somalian, and I asked him about somalian cuisine; he recommended Darbo, and he was very excited because apparently the owner of Darbo recently graduated from Franklin Univ, and was like the first person in the Cbus Somali community to graduate from a US college. It was pretty cool. All of that to say, I keep meaning to check it out sometime.
Bring on the goat. I love gamey.

There's a spot at the corner of Georgesville Road and the western arm of Sullivant Avenue in a small strip mall (try this Google mapping: http://tinyurl.com/6xr6lo). I've driven by several times, but haven't been.

I ate at Darbo today and can highly recommend it. I tried the grilled goat and it was delicious. Very tasty and pretty lean as well. I also tried curry chicken over a somalian pancake (Canjeera). The pancake was very light and almost nutty tasting and the curry was very good. They offer a green hot sauce that is also delicious. The meal came with pineapple juice and jabati bread. My tab was $8. Amazing!

That Darbo website is sweet with the soccer player and all. Very fancy. It and the B1 website are my favorite local business websites. I am sure there are dozens of Somali dining places, but they are not going to just stand out for you to notice.

I've been promoting Darbo for almost 2 years now -- my "new" favorite Cbus restaurant.
