I have a friend who is currently receiving unemployment and has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She has been able to keep her health insurance through COBRA, but her benefits will end in December.
The social workers at the hospitals haven't been very helpful (fill out these forms for charity care) and an SSD attorney told her to come back when her benefits end. We would like to figure out the best way for her to enter "the system" and receive medicaid in light of the need for her to first eliminate her (rather paltry) assets.
Any experts out there that could offer some advice? I'd be happy to pay a professional social worker or case worker if they could lay out options and help manage the process.
