Speaking of Snowville, I don't know if anyone knows this or not, but they are now supplying the milk for Jeni's Ice Creams. This was some of the best culinary news I've heard all year!
I heard the story this morning, it was great! What a wonderful feature, I had no idea Snowville was selling in DC too. And they loved it!
This year I tasted their milk for the first time and was amazed. I'm hooked and hope never to go back to regular supermarket milk. Compared to organic (etc) meat, it's a really affordable nice thing to do for my family.
Love Snowville! Best milk ever, so happy to hear that they are partnering with Jeni's!
Huge fan, both the product and Warren. I buy a half gallon of 1/2 + 1/2 every week from Greener Grocer. In espresso that stuff is scary good, I drank it black until Snowville.
Big ups to Snowville. And Warren... that dude has insane amounts of energy, glad he uses it for good!
That does it, I was going to hit North Market this afternoon anyway.

The whole milk makes a fine fine cappuccino.
They sell the stuff at Giant Eagle now too, but it's less expensive at the N.M.
What continues to astonish me is that it has a measurably longer shelf life than the grocery store milk. I assume this is a freshness issue.
There's also Young's Jersey Dairy, they sold unpasteurized milk until the law changed but AFAIK they still sell unhomogenized with the cream on top.

I have had the cream like 2 weeks past the expiration date and it is still fine. I think one reason is that it is on the supermarket shelf within a day of being milked.
I will always use it past exp date to make butter.
I always give my cat some of the scoopable cream off the top of the 1/2 and 1/2, and now whenever I pull out a carton of anything he gets very excited. he's very picky, though and doesn't like it when i have a lesser brand of half and half.
And on the Warren topic - if I had half his energy I would be incredibly happy.

Sadly, no milk at all for sale at Young's. Just ice cream, and when we asked where its dairy ingredients came from, the staff demurred uncomfortably and didn't answer.
We get our Snowville at Clintonville Community Market. My 5 year old won't drink any other brand of milk.
The dairy industry spokesperson quoted in the story made me laugh - he basically called people idiots for not purchacing watered down industrially produced milk.
Snowville is the best. Even the skim seems creamy compared to supermarket skim. I highly recommend Snowville whole milk for making homeade ricotta - it's delish.
haha i just read the transcript. I would certainly be willing to do a side-by-side taste test of milk. and Snowville cream tastes like melted ice cream it's so sweet.

Forget taste, one can tell the snowville apart from 'supermarket' brand milk by smell alone. I picked up a jug of 'supermarket' when I was in a hurry a while back and I was shocked at how bad it smelled and no it was nowhere near the sell-by date.
Wow. There is quite clearly a difference in taste between the grocery store brand and Snowville. I don't typically buy organic products because of the price, but I always get Snowville when I can (unfortunately, my local grocer does not carry it), because it tastes so much better!
