Damn...
Today's my sister's birthday. As a bit of a birthday gift I purchased she and her fiance' tickets on Skybus to come hang out here for the weekend. I was planning to take them to The Rossi for a b-day dinner this evening then to Easton to do a little shopping during the day tomorrow and out to Bristol for drinks and music tomorrow night.
They just arrived at the airport (Wilmington, DE) to find that the flight had been cancelled due to mechanical issues. I guess that's the big drawback about dealing with an airline with such limited resources. Operating only one flight a day out of that airport, there are no other options or spare airplanes.
I was really excited to hang out with them.
I'm super bummed. :(

What did you expect? I don't trust the whole $10 each way thing, because you could get stranded or screwed royally if you are trying to get back to Columbus from somewhere and all you get is your $10 refund.
I am sure there are people on here who have success stories of Skybus, but if I was planning an expensive trip of non-refundable anything I wouldn't rely on that airline to get me there.

Well...I certainly didn't expect the fight to be cancelled. Otherwise I wouldn't have spent my evening last night cleaning my house and washing the sheets on the spare bed.
Is it a huge surprise? No. But that doesn't mean it sucks any less.

Had 3 different groups of visitors schduled to come to town this month...all on skybus. Out of the three, only one made it. One cancellation for weather (snowstorm) and one for mechanical issues.
I guess you get what you pay for.

I read now that if you buy their trip insurance you will get money credited to other flights and possibly other airlines? Not sure, you would have to read the details.
Sorry your Easter is turning up cracked eggs! Hopefully they get here.

Dkilla, that sucks. Skybus should let them have a free rental car so they can drive or do something with another airline to make it right.

i'm from delaware and was super excited when skybus chose that airport, since my mom still lives there.
however, they have one flight a day and its at noon! i'd rather pay a little more and fly into philly on southwest.

Skybus is just too damn cheap and unreliable. Maybe someday these stories won't be so common but until then I'll pay more just to have piece of mind.

I wouldn't really expect all that for $10. Honestly, I'm not all that pissed at the airline or anything. Just disappointed cuz I was really looking forward to seeing them. They were only gonna stay through Sunday and skybus is unable to guarantee them seats on tomorrow's flight, so they just decided to can the trip.
Oh well...I guess I'll see them @ the wedding in May.

Me too. We figured we'd give it a try, tho. Next time we'll do the $50 each way on SW.

Where in DE? I grew up in MD but my parents live in Hockessin, DE now.

i have a flight coming up at the end of april... they recently sent me an email saying the return would be delayed an few hours, but still on the same day.
this actually kind of works out better for me, so i guess i shouldn't complain, and of course it isn't here yet... but i did get the insurance.
i dunno... i think this is all just refreshingly honest, mostly.

I wouldn't call that a delay. I'd call that a change in the scheduled departure time.

Well...I certainly didn't expect the such a curt response from anyone. I was going for more of a "yeah that sucks your sister can't make it this weekend, sorry to hear that."
Fixed that for you, dKilla.

hahah okay, i screwed up but it is funny... they label it as a change of departure time, like you said, but it is really only less than 30 minutes now that i look at it

sorry i guess i should read the thread before posting... i'm not trying to belittle your experience, as that just sucks, but just offering what was happening to me at least
i don't think there is anything ever to flying that seems natural... the way it all works these days is screwy... but at least its fairly safe, i guess... but perhaps the undergrounders here all could do research into airline management theory and write up how they fail, and how to do better heheh, or i guess that's what they should be doing, eh?

Lewes is a great little town! Possibly the best kept secret on the east coast.
