Yup, it's that time of year again when I get all giddy cuz the first snow has fallen and local "mountains" are making snow.
Since last year's season fell a little short of expectations, I'm hoping to get more than just a couple days in at Snow Trails and hopefully reviving the annual trip to Utah. Anyone else have epic snow sports plans this season?

I'm about an hour and a half from Whistler Blackcomb now that they've redone the sea to ski highway from Vancouver. Looking forward to weekend trips, and maybe even some day trips up there. I did not get up there last year, and I heard it's just amazing.
We have a few mountains that are closer to Vancouver, including Cypress where a lot of the Olympic snowboarding events were held. They have night skiing there so I'm excited to check that out as well.

ohhhh, i've always wanted to go to Whistler/Blackcomb! hope they have good weather this year!
i've always liked utah because every year i've gone, we've gotten 4-18 inches of fresh powder every night during the last week of february to the first week of march. perfect conditions, never too cold, too wet, too warm, etc.
i hope this cold front gives snow trails and mad river a huge boost in their snow making.

I've been pretty much to every major resort in the U.S. and Snowbasin is hands down the best. Love that place.

I totally agree with you. Great base lodge bar and patio. Pristine bowls and back country terrain. STUNNING peak lodge food/beer/chandeliers. And my most FAVORITE part about Snowbasin? The coconut liquid hand soap in the bathrooms. :o)
That said, about twenty minutes away is this little known mountain... it's singularly the best powder conditions I've EVER seen. Aptly known as Powder Mountain. It must be a combination of weather conditions and where it's situated because it regularly gets 6 inches more powder than any other resort around.

I've climbed Mt. Baker and watched the guys we climbed it with ski down the glacier -- but never been to Mt. Baker Ski area. Statistically it looks like it gets a lot of fresh powder but is about half the vertical drop of most major western resorts. Whistler/Blackcomb are a different story though. As long as they don't get hit with 'cascade concrete' probably the best resort in North America.

With this type of weather, I bet the ski places within a 3 hour drive are all slated to open early.
Yup:
Mad River: Dec 10th, noon
Snow Trails: Dec 8th, 4pm
Holiday Valley: Dec 7th, 9am
Seven Springs: already open, but closed during the week; reopens Dec 10th, 9am
Any I'm missing?
