6-story Jesus statue in Ohio struck by lightning
A six-story-tall statue of Jesus Christ with his arms raised along a highway was struck by lightning in a thunderstorm Monday night and burned to the ground, police said.
The "King of Kings" statue, one of southwest Ohio's most familiar landmarks, had stood since 2004 at the evangelical Solid Rock Church along Interstate 75 in Monroe, just north of Cincinnati.

As a Christian, I can't help but think the message is "maybe we shouldn't be putting our resources into building 6 story tall statues of Jesus".

Yeah…seems like it falls more in the "graven images" category than the "good works" category. I mean, however you want to spend your time and tithes, but there's a lot of people out there that could probably use some help.

You know that silhouette of Jesus that is projected on the front of that church on Livingston in German Village?
Some guy I knew taped a tiny little paper axe to the hand of the little Jesus, so that the big projected Jesus looked like he was a homicidal axe maniac.
It was pretty darned funny and extremely offensive all at once. But most of all, very memorable, especially as its situated near a few freeway on-and-off ramps.

Holy crap, I was just talking about this statue to my in-laws last night! We even showed them the video by Heywood Banks. Now we only have the Dublin concrete cornfield and the Longaberger Basket HQ as major highway oddities. "

As a Christian, I'm glad it burned . It doesn't matter...they'll have it back up in 6 days. Ok...maybe 6 weeks. You know, you got to file a report, then file a claim with your insurance company, so on so on.... I wonder if their insurance covered the giant jesus?
