Singer/Actress looking for a room/apartment in September

Hello Underground. I hope you can help. I'll be moving to Columbus in September and need a place to live. I will be working for the Columbus Children's Theatre and would like to be nearby in the city.

From what I've read on this message board, I'd like to be in the downtown, Short North (Victorian Village, Italian Village), or German Village areas. I can't wait to join the arts and entertainment scene in Columbus.

My monthly budget, including utilities, is $500. (I can go up to $1000/mo for a two bedroom as I have a friend who will be working with me who also needs a place to stay.)

If you have any ideas or connections, please let me know. Thanks.

Unfortunately, those are probably the three most expensive neighborhoods in central Columbus. However, there are neighborhoods near to them where your budget wouldn't be unreasonable. Merion Village is the lower-priced German Village, Italian Village, as you mentioned, is the lower-priced Short North, and Olde Towne East / the King Lincoln District are the lower-priced downtown.

The cheaper neighborhoods are great, but spotty, so do your research. You're also probably going to have more and better options doing the two bedroom for $1000 than the one bedroom for $500 --unless you just want an efficiency.

There's also an actual artists community that lives in an old school building in a neighborhood east of the Italian Village --it's called the Milo Arts. However, it takes a special kind of person to live there --I definitely would recommend talking to some current residents before even considering that as an option. There are also some legitimate concerns about the financial viability of that community as a whole, so also make sure to take that into account.

You could also look in the Discovery District around Town St. It is on the east end of downtown, around the Main Library and Topiary Garden.
