There's a reason why there are vast numbers of viewers and critics that crown The Wire as the best series ever, trumping the Sopranos, etc. That said, The Wire is the definition of a slow build, and requires patience. There are multiple story arcs that not only span episodes, but seasons. Also, episodes don't have typical cliff-hangers or clear cut resolutions, and there is tons of grey area without obvious heroes or villains. All of this can make it a challenging watch for some, not to mention it's bleak and grim themes.
It's one of the most rewarding shows imaginable if you can devote yourself to it though.
Well put. My favorite season so far has been three I think? The one with the dock workers and the greeks etc. Chris Bauer is a really good actor, really nice to watch after seeing his goofy sheriff role in True Blood all these years.

I'm really enjoying it. Not what I expected, very little actual "Ripper" stuff, but better for it.
BTW, in order to combine two of my shows...they've just announced that Deathstroke will be played by Manu Bennett (Crixus on Spartacus) on Arrow. Awesome :D
Couple new ones to keep an eye on are The Following and Banshee.
Banshee isn't particularly well acted, but the action is good and the story itself is pretty interesting. Bad guy who robbed Russian Mob gets out of prison, goes after loot. Finds his former girlfriend and partner living in a tiny PA town (Banshee) that's about half Amish. Through a twist, he ends up assuming the identity of the out of town recruit for Sheriff. Most interesting character on the show is the town bad guy who also happens to be a shunned former member of the Amish community.
The Following is Kevin Bacon's new show, very Silence of the Lambs style. Super smart, charismatic serial killer escapes prison, Kevin Bacon was the agent who caught him originally. The twist is, the killer had built a network of serial killers via his visits to the law library, and has put a pretty ambitious plan in motion for revenge.
BTW, for Stephen King fans, check out Haven. It just finished its 3rd? Season, loosely based on The Colorado Kid. Got into it last summer and got caught up, pretty good TV if you're a King Fan.

Shifter, you inspired me to give TUF the first shot again since the Live season and I really dug the premiere for this season.
Glad to be back in the fold :D
I'm digging it too! Glad you're back.
Got any finalist picks?
I'm going Josh Samman (if he stops being a d-bag in the ring) and Jimmy Quinlan.
Tim Williams will be back as a replacement, and he's a wild card for sure. Dude is terrifying.
I'm giong to say Jimmy Quinlan and Gilbert Smith Jr (despite being the shortest competitor). I was really surprised that Luke Barnatt was the #1 overall pick.
Man, that Josh is so unlikable.... ecccch. So early to tell.
I've honestly taken the last few seasons of this show off, I'm glad to be watching it again. Hoping for a good season. Jones vs Sonnen seems to be a good matchup given their general distaste for one another.

Watched this last night. I don't get too wrapped up in any TV shows, but this one was legit fucking creepy. when they found that cult house...yikes. I honestly thought the gore and scare factor would have given this an R-rating were it on the big screen. Pity to any 6 year old kid that happens to be hiding behind the couch when mom and dad are watching this. I mean, Dr. Who and Twilight Zone were enough to traumatize me in that scenario.
Yep GR, and you get the "anyone can die" feel on the show too. Maggie Grace was in the pilot, playing the sole survivor of the dude's killing rampage when Bacon caught him. Typically, at least on TV, that's a character who will live (plus played by a somewhat major star). Yep, not so much.
Going to check out the pilot of The Following tonight.
Just watched the first episode of The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret last night. So far, so good.
I watched the whole first season of Todd Margaret. Fun concept, and David Cross is great, but I agree that it did feel a bit contrived in points. It was also borderline cringeworthy in parts where I could barely stand to watch him dig himself deeper into holes. Sort of like Curb your Enthusiasm, but a little more surreal?
Just finished episode 1 of The Following.
I'm sold. Quality stuff.
Glad I glanced over the big spoilers above. :)
LOL! Yeah, I thought about that after posting it.
Am I right though? TOTALLY expected her to be a main character in the show. Only reason I had any doubt is she's a regular on Californication this season too.
