are you kidding me!?! it was a mess! i should have known better than go, considering Dimitrius Stanley was chosen to be the voice of the Columbus arts community. they couldn't have actually recruited a productive members of he local arts community? i'm sure there are many who'd have spoken. what does Stanley know about the local arts?...very little, which explains his word-for-word reading of his address. hell, his speech sounded like it was taken from the website for show columbus '05. i could go on, but not here to trash their efforts. kudos to this years organizers for trying, but a poor follow up to last years event.

Eat shit! You try and organize something like this, and then you can comment on the outcome. As far as Dimitrious Stanley, it was not all about the arts; it spoke about fashion, music, and unconventionality! Everyone is out judge and critique but no one wants to help. An event to this caliber is something that 3 people cannot pull off, but it happened and happened with style. You’re just jealous. You are a prime example of why Columbus has no community. Why don't you try and do something instead of sitting back and only judging. To be honest I don't ever want to do anything like this for Columbus, OH because of people like you.

Way to stoop to the OP's level! :?

Columbus has a great community. One person is not a good way to judge what an entire community is like.
To be honest I don't ever want to do anything like this for Columbus, OH because of people like you.
That's a terrible way to handle one person's criticism.
C'mon people. Let's try to be a little more civil about this sort of thing. Honesty is appreciated, but no need for unnecessary drama.
Ok, so I know everyone is going to pass out when I say this...But...
I went to the event and I personally thought it was very well done. It felt like it came from the community, not some shitty corporate sponsor (and this is coming from the "Pencil pushing, idiot corp sell out").
It reminded me of the beginnings of Comfest...Not that Comfest is bad, it’s just so huge now.
I loved how all the businesses came together, worked out the kinks and made it happen. And listen, speeches are usually for people to hear themselves talk, not convey a message. So, he heard himself talk, good.
And we all moved on to enjoying the event.
So I say hat's off and to next year!

First of all, how am I stooping to anyone's level and who is the OP? I am just upset because I put my heart, credit card, and life on the line to do this event. This event was meant to be only for the community, emerging artists/musicians/designers, and small businesses. Not for the organizers. We barley got any support for this event, besides a few wonderful people, and everyone else just wants to judge. The 3 organizers are doing nothing but sticking their necks out and trying to make something happen. This is more than most people are doing for our community. The only question I do have is, why was it such a mess?
I thought you said it was Amazing?
Don't let some negativity bring you down!
Put your energy forward into your next one.

What do you mean when you say "everyone is giong to pass out"? It is comments like that, that are completely unneccessary.
OP = Original Poster
I thought you'd understand that, Mr. f!5h.

He means to say he is aware of the potential shock regarding a once in a life time positive post. Nothing to do with your event, just paranoia on your part.

I think he was just meaning that people here might not expect that sort of an comment from him. That part of his message had nothing to do with the event itself.
From the feedback I've heard so far (both here and other places) it sounds like most people had positive things to say about the event. There's always going to be negative comments on any event, so you just have to take that and run with it. I'm just upset that I didn't get to make it there this year. There was a LOT of competing events going on last weekend and everyone had to pick and choose what they wanted to do...
Wow, and I think this is the third time someone got my intent! Ndcent, I like the way you think!
And yes, let your paranoia go, and read the posting...Loved it. Do it again.

We have gotten a fantastic response about the event and did have wonderful people involved. I will be the first to admit that. I know we all need to focus more on the positive and ignore the negative because it was a great event. I just wish there wasn't any negative. Matt, Eric, and myself worked too hard and diligently, for our community, to have any bad words.
Really wish you had made it. It was an event not to miss. You can check us out again October 13, 2007.
Will try to make it!
sounds great.

whoa...down boy. not a thread of jealousy here, just honest feedback. i've organized many such (successful) events thoughout the country. as i said, i'm not here to knock you down, but if you truly want my critique i'd happy to give it. generally, it lacked focus, organization. there's always a fine line b/w a grand, multi-sensory spectacle and completely overwhelming and confusing people. the audience didnt' know what the hell was going on at any given time. the fashion show was an hour late, no? i know people who showed up specifically for the fashion show and had to "endure" (according to them) that Bjork-like musical number (people were actually covering their ears, for God's sake!) and other performances as they waited for the show to finally start.
you say ONLY 3 people were involved? well, it looked like a case where too MANY were involved...too many indians, not enough chiefs.
and i had the pleasure of goign to this years and last years event adn can't help but compare the 2. 05 was much more focused and well organized, controlled....and, since someone mentioned it, with a much less corporate and more grassroots feeling.
then, your ads said this years event had "MORE" this and "MORE" that. MORE is not always better. there was MORE chaos and much less quality. the visual arts were comparatively very weak.
i won't even get started on the fashion show. actually, i will by saying this: the clothes and music were commendable. now, the models and the actual production...yikes! that area needs much work for next year.
and its pretty weak to trash the arts community for your lack of experience. kudos for the effort, but i'd learn from this years event, so that 07 can be all the better.
SHOWcolumbus is about the community, and the talented individuals who not only stay local, but also help build up this place that so people can't so easily write it off because it's NOT *-insert big city-*.
Everyone involved with SHOWcolumbus had and will always have nothing but good intentions for the betterment of COLUMBUS. If you don't want to participate, then don't support us. There are other places you can put your time and money into who also have the same passion for this city. Heck, I even hear there's a new nightclub that shows "Modern" art. That sounds interesting to me, eclectic even! I love art from 1890-1970 myself. <3 <3
Shame on you's:
To anyone and everyone who came and was disappointment. There is no apology for you. SHOWcolumbus is by the community for the community. There is NO profit. There is only money to put the event on, show you good people something new, and give money to charity. So again, Shame on you all who have a problem with what we do, and who were selfish enough to complain about not being thoroughly entertained.
Next year, I promise we'll try to make your mother disappear, or better yet, we'll hold her under water for 9 minutes and broadcast it on ABC. Maybe then you'll buy 2 tickets? For everyone else who enjoyed the quality performances and art, good for you, and we'll see you next year with even more surprises. And apparently there's a disappearing act you won't want to miss.
-To the artists who dropped out because the walls weren't perfect. SHOWcolumbus is a community event, not a payday. There were plenty of artists who would have loved to show, who begged to show, who didn't get to show because a selfish few didn't want to put a little fucking elbow grease into this community; STOP using up our resources and the resources of other artists. Artists who are working just as hard, if not harder to get THEIR name in the paper, and who damn well wouldn't drop out of a show the day after their name was put into print.
-To the venues for trying to fuck us over. It's a shitty situation to be in when you have to say "sorry charity, we can't help your cause because the people we already gave a lot of money to, want more money."
-To me for being a hypocrate in the post, but dammit if I didn't have birds to kill.
In Closing:
Our intention is to prove that Columbus is this city that is cultured, well rounded and deserves attention for the Art that it produces. One organization can't do that. We are nothing without support, nor will any other group/collective/non-profit/etc. We will continue to provide these opportunities for all of those who choose to participate. As long as there are artists to show, boutiques to feature, and musicians to perform, we will SHOWcase them.
We had a few bumps. So what. We managed, and we clean up real fucking nice. See you next year!
