I had no idea that the Garden used to be a burlesque theater!
Of course, in the 80s I was in elementary school, and probably didn't have much business being in the SN at that time.
Thanks for posting that Mr Walker!

It was hot, they used to actually have burlesque style posters of the "features" and all that.

Wow. I thought everyone knew that. I forget I am a geezer here.
In the 80s there would be protestors out in front of it, especially on GH night.

I'd kind of love if they renovated it back into a theater...then again I'm a huge fan of Dita...and of course Gypsy Rose.
I love the High St. Art Blog, the photos are a great blast from the past, keep 'em coming!!! This goes to show that the Short North has a pulse and just evolves year after year. I love hearing my friend tell stories of the different bars/clubs he used to frequent in the Short North/South Campus 15, 20 years ago.
Not to get off subject, but who in the hell keeps breaking those large windows at the Grand View Merchantile?? :x [/i]

No idea. But I can't believe it's still happening. And that no one has managed to capture anything on camera.
These types of photo blogs are testament that we should continue to photograph our inner city neigborhoods. I imagine in 20 years Franklinton, KLD and OTE will all be different places.
On a side note; as a photographer I often get into trouble by secret service like men and police who don't understand why anyone would want to take pictures of buildings downtown.- Especially near the statehouse.
Someone ought to go down to the river and take some 'before' shots so we can see all that will have changed after the Scioto Mile is done and development starts happening on the franklinton side around COSI.

I know!! My friends and I were remarking that if we lived in the apt. building right across the street, we'd definitely set up a video camera in the window.

I have tons of photos of W. Nationwide Blvd., then called Dublin Ave., buildings I took a few years ago that are now demolished. I need to venture into Franklinton and photograph, maybe this will be my summer project.
Knock on wood, I've never been hassled while taking photos downtown. One time right after 9/11 some random guy made a remark while walking by, but that's all.
