Gallery owner guilty in tax probe

The owner of one of the first Short North art galleries pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court today to lying to government investigators and a federal grand jury about dealings with her landlord, Columbus attorney Aristotle R. Matsa.

P. Maria Galloway, owner of pm gallery, admitted that she had conspired to obstruct justice in 2006 during a federal investigation of Matsa, who has been charged in federal court with tax offenses, obstruction of justice, witness tampering and conspiracy.

Business incubator and trust tax evasion seem pretty rampant in Columbus and there have been more crack downs lately. I think we will be seeing more headlines like this.

In order to take advantage of programs/tax incentives aimed at helping mbe's, small businesses or startups, larger or exempt companies will use people, trusts or existing small businesses as shills.

I know this family because our kids go to the same school. They always seemed like salt of the earth type people and never struck me as remotely floating in money. I'd be curious to hear more of the circumstances behind this.
It makes me very sad.

Oh yes, ok, this is making sense now. The mafia has done this for quite a while, as far as using MBE's to get city / state contracts.

Well I am assuming this will mean the end of PM Gallery or atleast its moving to a different location. I am guessing her landlord will raise the rent to pay all those lawyers.
