Best combination I've found yet is Jack Black Beard Lube and the Gillette Fusion Power.
Problem #1: Jack Black is expensive.
Problem #2: I still have ridiculous caveman hair. Eventually they'll have something like full-face laser beard removal that doesn't give you a permanent sunburn and I'm seriously going to consider it. I can shave with a brand new razor and get 10:00 a.m. shadow.
This thing.

(With the Onion story about it, for those who haven't seen it.)
Changed my life. Superb.
I've got very sensitive skin on my neck, and even sensitive-skin shaving creams don't do the job. Some pros recommended using aloe vera hair conditioner as shaving cream a while back, and as long as it's high-aloe and low-alcohol it works beautifully -- best I've found, and not that expensive.
(Edits: clarification on conditioner, size of pic)
"Art of Shaving" stuff I got @ Saks was incredible, but also muy dineros. The pre-shave oil really works wonders.
Ritual is pretty good, but I can never seem to remember to order it.
Honestly, the best investment I had was a shower mirror from Container Store. You fill a ring around it w/ the hot water which heats the mirror to temp to control fogging. Shaving in the hot, hot shower is less messy too. Added bonus is more conditioning time for the hair.
A.
So I see that Jack Black Beard Lube is kind of a all-in-one oil/cream/condioner?
Interesting.
I was given that JB Triple Cushion shave lather and I really haven't cared for it. I guess I haven't tried using it with a brush though, I only just now realized that you could with that. I'll give it another go.
I used the American Crew Herbal Shave Lather for a while and must say that stuff is pretty awesome.
i shave once a week... its pretty great except when the office was doing mustache march... but i digress, i use jack black products as well and they are fantastic.
I've got the same problem + dry skin. My hair grows in different directions, so that makes it even more tough to escape without razor burn. Neutrogena's shave cream is the best I've found for lubrication without irritation at a reasonable cost and is widely available.

You should try that American Crew Herbal Shave Cream - I feel like that would be good for sensitive skin.
The best shaving move I made was starting to use a shaving brush. That and some Taylor of Old Bond St. shaving cream.
I will do that. Does an electric shaver work for anyone? I've never had a good shave with one, but would invest in a quality machine.
I use this product from Lush.

Very happy with it. Still trying to find the right razor though. Used to use a Braun electric. but it died after thirteen years and I never got around to replacing it.

Aloe vera conditioner makes the best shaving cream IMO.
I'm stuck on a Mach 3.
I have a brushed nickel shaving set (soap dish/boars bristle shaving brush/brushed nickel razor handle.)
I find the heavy weight of the razor handle really helps with a close shave. Also using the boars bristle brush really lifts the hair.
I'm just using whatever drug store shave soap right now, it does the trick and leaves a clean skin.
After shave though I've been using this L'Occitane ultra rich balm whatever - this shit is amazing, I would highly recommend it!

I used the Anthony Logistics for a couple years before this, the all purpose facial moisterizer (also very good, but doesn't compete with that L'Occitane stuff.)
I'm sick of all of Ndcent's hippy shit posts!

Any man who can actually get a close shave with an electric shaver had something go wrong during puberty.
In short, "no."

I've never used a shaving brush before ... what's the big deal with it? What does it help with?

Shave brushes are utilized by shavers for a variety of reasons, including the ability to provide a close, comfortable and enjoyable shave. A fibrous bristle load holds significant amounts of water which mix with the soap lifted from a shaving mug or scuttle. The more water a brush holds, the moister and richer a lather will be. Thicker and more emollient lather translates to less razor skipping and dragging.
Bringing a shave brush across one's skin results in an exfoliation effect. Because a shave brush is most often used with a glycerin-based soap, this effect often replaces the pre-shave routine of washing and applying lotion to the face.
The greatest benefit from shave brush use is the tendency to soften and lift facial hair before a shave. Applying shaving cream by hand mats hair or raises it unevenly. Shave brush use, however, requires a circular motion to form a lather suitable for a shave. Therefore, a razor does not need to be pressed to the skin in order to provide a close shave. For this reason, straight razors (or high-quality safety razors) are most often used with a shave brush, as the necessity for more than a single blade is effectively waived.
The Nivea shave gel and conditioning balm do the trick for me.
Works better than some of the pricier stuff I've tried as well.
I don't trust myself with a straight razor so close to my jugular. Butterfingers, especially in the morning.
You guys are making it too easy for me to sell you stuff today. We're getting in a line of mens grooming products called Ritual. It's the best shave I've ever had. They have a blade rinse that kills all the bacteria on your blade so you don't get any red bumps or ingrown hairs.
Hmm. I'm pretty sure what I'm using isn't a glycerin-based soap. It certainly doesn't come in one of those tub-like canisters that seem geared towards dipping a shave brush into, at any rate.
When the budget starts to bite a little, I'll also switch to using Gillette's Complete Skincare Multigel, which is much more affordable and does a pretty good job (and is also a lot easier to find in Canton when I don't want to mail-order more premium products).
I've had a look at some of those Art of Shaving products, might have to give them a try soon, too. I've been on a quest for a good close shave that lasts a while and doesn't give excessive razorburn since right around my thirteenth birthday. The search is ongoing.
