Our most anticipated event of the year, the annual farm-to-table dinner at Flying J organic farm, is back! And this year, it’s got a lineup of features that you won’t want to miss.
Arrive at 5:00 for a free farm tour. At 5:45, start off the evening with a signature farm-to-table cocktail designed for the event by Nicolene Schwartz, formerly head mixologist at the Rossi, whose unique, artisanal style won rave reviews there. Move on to a seasonal bounty from the farm, including dishes made from Farmer Dick’s organic vegetables and grass-fed brisket, expertly prepared by the Caskey family of Zagat-acclaimed Skillet Rustic Urban Food in German Village. Enjoy wines provided by United Estates importers and Wine on High, and beer from Columbus Brewing Company.
The centerpiece of the dinner, in a nod to Skillet’s acknowledged expertise with all things porcine, will be a whole, whey-fed pig from Athens’ Integration Acres, delicately and lovingly slow-cooked to perfection. Finish the meal by joining Snowville Creamery’s dynamo Warren Taylor for a turn on his ice cream bicycle—work off dessert while you make it! And there may or may not be something pawpaw flavored to accompany... we’re not saying. Campers and those who plan to relax and enjoy the whole evening are welcome to pitch a tent, stay overnight, and enjoy breakfast.
Similar open-air dinners elsewhere can range from $150-$300, but thanks to the skill of our chefs and the generosity of our sponsors, event team, and host, we can bring it to you for less... much less. How does a member price of, oh, $40 sound to you? Nonmembers, sorry, you’ll need to pay $60; kids 12 and under, member or nonmember, are $20. (Have we mentioned that annual membership only costs $25?) Camping and next-morning coffee and breakfast are available for an additional $10 donation to the farm.
Tickets go on sale Thursday, July 21, at noon, on our Events page, for members and nonmembers alike, and we anticipate brisk sales—past years have sold out quickly. Membership in Slow Food USA is available 24 hours a day.
We hope to see you out at the farm!
