Shadowbox Live is proud to announce their next musical production, the Tony Award winning Broadway show, Rent.

Based on PucciniÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s opera La Boheme, Rent tells the story of a group of young Bohemians struggling to live and love in modern New York City. The show premiered in 1996 and immediately made waves with its controversial story line and rock Ã¢â‚¬ËœnÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ roll style songs.

Ã¢â‚¬Å“The cutting edge, raw energy of Rent is particularly well suited to Shadowbox Live,Ã¢â‚¬Â says Stev Guyer, Executive Producer and CEO. Ã¢â‚¬Å“Every great aspect of this show is an area where we excel. I guarantee ours will be a version youÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ll not want to miss.Ã¢â‚¬Â

Rent opens on Sunday, March 6th at 7:00 PM, and runs every Sunday at 2 PM & 7:00 PM through April 17, 2011. Tickets are $30 / $20 for students, seniors, and active military.

I just got back from the 7 o'clock showing. I gotta say, my girlfriend and I were blown away. Although the set pieces were simple, the raw talent of the actors surpassed both of our expectations.

It. was. awesome. Go see it if you're a fan of rent. You won't regret it.

Went to see this on the free tickets we got from JimmyMak and really enjoyed it. I had never seen Rent in any of its incarnations, so was glad to finally experience it.

It's impressive how Shadowbox can put on full musicals in such a limited space --and how all the performers do double duty in offstage roles.

The show is completely sold out through the end of its run, but it may be worthwhile to show up anyway --we got in at the last minute when another group canceled.

Saw the 2pm show today. I agree 100% with this:

Valerie Whitherspoon, an import from the companyÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Newport, Ky., branch, is the perfect quirky blend of personality and powerhouse vocals needed for the role of the bisexual actor/protester Maureen. I must admit IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢m not usually a fan of the Ã¢â‚¬Å“Over the MoonÃ¢â‚¬Â segment of the show, but ValerieÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s high-energy and pitch perfect vocal made me love it for the first time. And she just keeps impressing all night. Her duet with Kara Wilkinson (also a Newport transplant, who plays uptight, lesbian lawyer JoAnne) is the nightÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s best vocal performance. Those two ladies lay it all out on the stage for a moment that is theater gold. Your $30 ticket is paid for after that one performance.

The only other version of Rent that I've seen is the movie, and I didn't really care for Maureen and JoAnne. I was pleasantly surprised at how the different portrayals in Shadowbox's version made me do a complete 180 on Maureen and JoAnne.

Other highlights were John Boyd (Mark), "Life Support," "Without You" and the dance choreography for some of the songs like "La Vie Boheme."

HeySquare and I finally saw this last week. Ladies and gentlemen, please consider this as a way to continue having fun after St. Patrick's Day. It is gorgeously produced and finds ways to break from the original production. Tom Cardinal, in particular, is a revelation as Angel, the drag queen who towers above the rest of the cast in impossible high heels. The original dance choreography compliments the story. Bill Who?, as always, brings out the urgency of the music.
