Large groups of loud, boisterous women drinking at restaurants, trying their best to show everyone what a good time they can have together without men, that is. Went to Rigsby's last night with my wife for dinner as part of the Dine Originals event (great deal, good food, great service). Now anyone who has gone to Rigsbys since the redesign a few years back knows it's a fairly loud, high-energy sort of vibe place, at least in comparison to the old ambiance. But last night the sound level was incredibly high. Behind us were six women at a large roundtop and I swear to the almighty, they were literally yelling at one another across the broad expanse of the large table in order to be heard. And heard they were. Just a few tables over, yet another large table of women, who at least were not quite as loud. Both tables of women were not eating. Just drinking glasses of wine. I saw a few deserts. Both were present when we arrived and present when we left, apparently there for the long haul. But this isn't a bar. It's a sit down restaurant, and one of this City's better ones at that. I've seen this kind of thing quite a bit at Short North spots, and The Rossi comes to mind, but I don't mind it there. The Rossi is both a bar and a restaurant, and if people want to occupy a large table at The Rossi and drink all night, that is their perogative. Now knowing this board, I am going to get some sexist comments my way. I can handle it. But I swear, I don't recall ever seeing this phenomenon before. This isn't Beverly Hills and this isn't an outside patio setting. So what gives? Sorry in advance to anyone offended. Sorry too for ranting over little more than a nuisance.

Ran into a similar group whilst waiting for a table @ Tip Top. Got the FUCK out of there and went to Due Amici before I lost it.

You were in a public place, so who cares what others were doing. Have you never gone out to a sit down for desert or appetizers and drinks w/ friends? Get over it and let people have some fun.

seeing as how the show's last season was back in 2006 (and set in NYC), you're at least six years behind the trend. did you just start going out to adult restaurants in the past couple years or so? because ladies going out with each other has been happening since before this show aired.

Generally, I'm pretty loud myself and certainly don't mind groups of single gals out looking for a good time? What's the problem again?

Keep it civil, folks. There's really no need for insulting other people.

I thought this was going to be more about the aura of entitlement instilled in some mid 20's women. The ones who believe that it's only a matter of time before their "Mr. Big" pulls up in a limo and introduces them to a 1400sq/ft shoe closet.
[I watched the movie]
The same could be said about men with unwarranted self-esteem and believe they every potential mate must conform to the unrealistic aesthetics of manipulated magazine covers.
[And all 6 seasons]

I think the horse face comment was meant for Ms. Parker. Which isn't so much an insult as an observation.

Back in my single days they were fairly common. Funny thing is, no self respecting guy would approach that type of group. You can't cut one out of the herd and a lot of the talk is smack against guys. So if you tried to talk to one you could be assured that the other three would be critiquing you as soon as you left.

Sounds good. Let's do "girls that wouldn't go out with me in high school" next.

I still think she is pretty damn hot horse face or not, and she grew up in Nelsonville and Athens, Ohio.

As a single woman who is now in her (*gasp* later) 30's, and never much cared for that show, I can assure you, it's not a new phenomenon. It's really not that much different than going to any other sort of bar/sports themed/restaurant and witnessing lumps of guys not eating, drinking and being loud.
It's what happens when people are interacting and having a good time.
ETA: I think the reason you'll see more groups of women at nicer restaurants is because we're more about the interaction with each other, and lots of women use that as a way to "treat" themselves.

Camping out at a restaurant table during busy hours, especially during a high volume week, is rude regardless of gender. It has nothing to do with a TV show, so I don't really get that part.

Likely, a meal was consumed. Sure, staying for hours and hours definitely steps over the bounds of normal restaurant behavior, but if they were drinking, it's likely their tab was pretty huge. Possibly even more than if the table had filled twice in the same time period.
Basically, you can't make those kinds of judgements about folks - perhaps this was the first time these ladies had gotten together in X long, and they'd made prior arrangements with the restaurant (not uncommon, as that is a very female thing to do).
