I have a rather old house.
This winter when I was checking for drafts I went in a crawl space that was accessible from in the basement. It was where all the plumbing used to go. In the crawl space there is a full sized sewer lid.
I popped it open and looked down. Looked like it went down quite a way. There was a ladder made up of old metal and wood that went down into it. Since I was home alone it didn't seem like a good time to go exploring. If I fell no one would ever find me and there is no way the cell phone would work down there.
It kinda creeped me out. When I was pulling all my stuff out of the crawl space, the painting light was last. I was getting my stuff together when I heard a loud CLICK and the light went off.
So I grabbed the cord and started pulling. About half way out it seemed to catch on something, I pulled harder and as it came into view I could see something pale on the top of it, stopping me from retrieving it. Then suddenly the light got pulled away from me and skittered back in the crawl space.
After catching my breath and grabbing another light, I went in and retrieved it. It must have gotten snagged on one of the cable wires.
The click was the light burning out.
I keep the hatch to the crawl space locked now
