Seems that poster may have been dead on the money with the rumor posted a couple weeks ago (which I can't find to update)...

COLUMBUS, Ohioâ€”There has been a possible break in the North-West serial rapist investigation.
Itâ€™s a story NBC 4 has been following since June, and NBC 4â€™s Paul Stelzer had an update Monday.
Columbus police have been searching for a man whom detectives said committed several rapes on the cityâ€™s West and Northwest sides.
Police have been investigating a local man as a suspect NBC 4 learned Sunday night.
Detectives have a suspect, according to court documents uncovered by NBC 4.
A recovered stolen phone led detectives to the man who is listed as a registered sex offender, CPD said.
The suspect also has a lengthy criminal history, including rape and burglary, and matches the description in connection with the rapes, according to court records.
He currently is in jail on other charges.
The suspectâ€™s name wasnâ€™t being released because he hasnâ€™t been charged with the rapes.

The original thread was removed after a couple complaints from several users. Accurate or no, the info in rumor-format wasn't doing anyone much good.

Yeah, even though it turned out to be correct, as is, it was pretty worthless information.

That's the thing about this. There's a balance that needs to be maintained.
When the police are not yet willing to release information to the press about something like this they often have a VERY good reason for holding back. Leaking rumors in a case like this can have serious implications, and none of us can guess in advance what those may be.
When it comes to an investigation of a serial rapist I am FAR more comfortable waiting for the official word from the police. Whistle-blowing about public malfeasance is another story. We need more of that. But this was not the case here.
While I am REALLY glad that original rumor has turned out to be a possibility (no conviction yet, KEEP THAT IN MIND), I am MUCH more comfortable discussing it now that the cops have decided its ok to let the cat OUT of the bag.

Totally agree, however still impressed at the accuracy of the original posting. There's a dozen reasons for it to be harmful to post it, true OR false, but again...it was dead on the money, which is kinda cool.

Well, I can assure you, the readership of Columbus Underground at the workhouse is pretty marginal at best ;)

It might be worth stressing again (as the TV news just did) that police are saying this is A POSSIBLE suspect, NOT the only suspect, and that nobody should stop taking basic safety precautions. Nothing is certain yet.

Seriously though RMM, if they proclaimed he was caught, drawn, quartered, and fed to the members of C/U, it wouldn't be smart to stop taking basic safety precautions. While I get your vibe on this, sooner or later this guy will be caught if he's not now, so the better message is out there, not this one.

The TV report I just saw was *very* careful to include that disclaimer and it seemed like a good one to me, is all.

I think a better safety advisory would be:
"If you did some shit to be safe specifically for fear of the specific serial rapist, keep doing it...seriously...see, that particular guy may be gone, but there are others..."

Yes! Thank you.
The number of reported rapes is actually down this year. Even without this guy there are CLEARLY a lot of very good reasons (and not just rapists) to be careful and look out for each other. I would hate to see anything bad happen to any of "the CU ilk" (or anyone else for that matter).
