COLUMBUS, Ohio—There has been a possible break in the North-West serial rapist investigation.It’s a story NBC 4 has been following since June, and NBC 4’s Paul Stelzer had an update Monday.
Columbus police have been searching for a man whom detectives said committed several rapes on the city’s West and Northwest sides.
Police have been investigating a local man as a suspect NBC 4 learned Sunday night.
Detectives have a suspect, according to court documents uncovered by NBC 4.
A recovered stolen phone led detectives to the man who is listed as a registered sex offender, CPD said.
The suspect also has a lengthy criminal history, including rape and burglary, and matches the description in connection with the rapes, according to court records.
He currently is in jail on other charges.
The suspect’s name wasn’t being released because he hasn’t been charged with the rapes.
