It's long been said that Old(e) North Columbus needs a parade, and now we can breathe a sigh of relief; that no-parade-in-Old(e)-North-Columbus tension is gone. On Sunday afternoon of March 28, 2010, history will be made as a .7 mile parade will take place prior to BeerCamp Columbus as presented by Surly Girl Saloon featuring the beers of Columbus Brewing Company.

This is a call for participants. Join Columbus' Own Marching Bartenders, Stitch and B*tch Columbus (the same one that knitted bacon), local celebrities and several other groups for this short yet significant parade. Be a part of history. And then go drink beer.

There are only going to be 100 tickets to Beercamp. The parade is limited to 80 people. People that miss this will be kicking themselves afterwards just like those that missed Woodstock, the first decade of Comfest and things of that cultural significance.

Some of the coolest people in Columbus are putting this together (and one person that is not cool) so how could one go wrong? One could not.

Some quick answers:

Do you need to make a float no - but it would be awesome if you did.

Are costumes involved - they can be. Since we have 5 CPD officers as our special event staff we would greatly appreciate it if you did wear clothing.

BeerCamp....the best event on March 28th.

Do we need to sign up for the parade, or are we enrolled when we buy our ticket? And does the parade permit allow for open container on the .7 mile route?

There are only 30 beer camp tickets left - so buy them before you have to kick yourself in the ass for missing BeerCamp.

You do not have to have a ticket to be in the parade, but we need to know if you can going to go to the parade so we have a head count.

If you did not get in beercamp ticket and do not want to be in the parade then come watch or protest it. The pardae is 1 PM on March 28th. The .7 mile route goes South on Summit, West on Maynard, North on Indianola East on Hudson and then back to Wild Goose Creative.

There are no open containers or alcohol being consumed by the parade partcipants . The Columbus Police Department asked me about that at least seven times during the permit process to make clear that was not going to happen.

There will be five police officers there for traffic management and crowd control so delay your drinking until post parade.

I should also mention that Studio 35 has a beer tasting and is showing the Movie the Holy Grail after the Beercamp - so you could have one heck of an afternoon and evening if you do both. Studio 35 is about a 15 minute walk away - so that may be safe option for some. I will be running a free shuttle service as well.

Oh and since Lauren is in the pardae, then yes, Beer Campy parade.

I did mention that clothing must be worn. Maybe a person could make beercan, bootle cab or bottle clothes.

BeerCamp tickets are now sold out.

However - there is still the parade.

The parade is expected to include the following: The CD 101 ice cream truck, a tractor, marching vegans, Kyle Sowash, some trombones, a dog with three chickens, maybe some scooter people, maybe some cycling people, Michael Coyote's bike with a Goose on it.

There is room for more....

If anyone has a connection to Hounddogs Pizza - I would love to have the Hounddog mobile with us....I am going to check this weekend - but if you have an in - even better. Zombies - I have checked with some of the people that did the Zombie Crawl about being in the parade but do not have an answer back. If you are a Zombie and want to be in the parade, I want you to know that this parade is an equal opportunity event - living or undead are welcome.

Barley's is bringing nine ales + Holy Grail Ale. We saved a keg each of Four Seas Imperial IPA and Auld Curiosity and will have a rare cask of Port wood aged ESB.

For a little more incentive - this will be the first and last annual BeerCamp parade - so come see this slice of history. If you don't have BeerCamp tickets go to Studio 35 for the Beer Tasting and Holy Grail. Studio 35 will be the home of the unofficial BeerCamp after party. And maybe O'Reilly's for the after, after party.

"Toplessness" is a right in Columbus - but "bottomlessness" is not. Paraders may be better off topless if it is raining.

The show will go on.

I will be listening to a lot of Creedence Clearwater Revival tonight - Who'll stop the rain.

Looking forward to the parade, the food, the BEER. Well, all that and more.

Just finished about 100 Dark Chocolate Stout muffins, starting on the Beer Cheese soup. Looks like I'll miss Donnie Darko tonight at Studio 35. :[
