Seeking input on Scioto River access at Marble Cliff

I'm exchanging messages with the Marble Cliff council, regarding their ideas on development of a river access point on the section of riverbank they own, approximately from the 5th Ave bridge to the Certified gas station. This could be a place to bring your watercraft to the river and paddle around; your obstacles would be Griggs upstream and the water plant dam downstream. If the city were to develop safe portage around that dam, you could paddle from 5th Ave. to the downtown pool.

They are seeking public input and ideas about various possible designs. There will be a meeting at Stauf's on October 11 @ 7:30 PM.

How would a homeless encampment be an obstacle to watercraft? Do they fire anti-ship missiles? Will they snorkel out to panhandle?

Maybe they'll build a castle in the middle of the river and charge a toll to pass.

Congregate around the boat launch area to "assist", perhaps.

Homeless does not equal panhandler. Not saying some don't beg for money, but their is a diverse group of people with very diverse reasons for being there.

As far as the launch point, if it can be done easily why not? Perhaps see if you can come up with some ideas about the power plant.

Did you mean water plant? There is a city-owned boat ramp by the old power plant on the Olentangy.

No actually I wanted you find a way for me to paddle the entire Mississippi watershed from downtown ;) Sorry I tend to mix up my dams.

I think the homeless encampment you are thinking of is on the Olentangy (behind Battelle). The guys on the Scioto are mostly downstream of the water plant dam near the confluence.

I canoe this stretch of river fairly often putting in and taking out from the frisbee golf course. It is pretty nice for being right inside the city. Except for going under the Trabue and 5th Ave. bridges, you can almost forget where you are.

I have considered parking at the rail bridge just north of 5th and putting in there. There are some pretty good paths cut down to the water by fishermen, but I don't have too much confidence in my car being able to jump the Dublin Road curb with the canoe strapped on top. Definitely going to try and make this meeting.
