COLUMBUS, Ohio – A school bus full of children was reportedly ambushed Wednesday afternoon.Columbus police said that the suspects attacked one of the students on the bus as he tried to jump out, NBC 4's Ana Jackson reported.
According to authorities, 10 to 20 juveniles surrounded the bus and began the ambush. Three teens have been charged with aggravated rioting.
Shattered glass littered the corner of St. Clair and Shoemaker avenues where police said that the suspects ambushed the school bus full of students from Independence High School.
Detectives said that a female suspect stepped out in front of the bus and refused to move, forcing it to stop.
At that time, 10 to 20 juveniles allegedly surrounded the bus and threw a rock at it, shattering a back window.
According to investigators, a student on the bus, Charles Turner, 18, thought the suspects were coming after him, so he tried to escape out the back emergency exit door. However, two suspects caught up to him and allegedly beat him up.
Police apprehended three suspects and questioned them. Several high-schoolers on the bus were also questioned.
Turner was taken to Grant Medical Center where he underwent surgery Wednesday afternoon. He was listed in fair condition.
