Hey all, I'm working on a story for Columbus CEO magazine about how folks can save money getting to work by biking/walking/taking the bus/carpooling/telecommuting/using flex time/ect. and am hoping to talk to folks who are doing just that. I'm also looking for businesses that have been standouts in helping employees do this sort of thing.

I was inspired to start riding the bus again by Jeff Johnson's "COTA Challenge". He rides it much further than me and has done a lot of extensive research with some of his blog posts about it:

Much thanks to all of you -- you've been a tremendous help! I've saved approximately $2500 this year by commuting on my motorcycle instead of my truck. :)

I'd rephrase that as you wasted $5000 this year by commuting in your truck instead of your motorcycle.

I've got my gas down to about $20 per month now that im carpooling with 3 other guys. Once I'm in the neighborhood, I ride the bike. (or unicycle :D ) My car stays parked for weeks at a time. I love it. Lost some weight too.

btw, if anyone is dying of curiosity on this ... the story is written and is ready to go, we just haven't had extra space to run it. :( I'll let ya know when it does go to print.

I asked my editor, and it looks like it's at every Barnes & Noble in town, the Book Loft in GV, the Hills Market in Worthington, North Star (Short North only, I think), the Beech Croft News on E. 161, and others. Hope that helps!

Just read your article. April 09 issue everyone!
It was good.
However I feel a bit peeved that Franklin County Commissioners subsidized COTA bus passes to the tune of a 'minimal' $15,969 for the month of February. Maybe I shouldn't feel upset but I am assuming tax payers paid for that perk, so not only do I pay the full $45 a month for a local pass for myself, I help subsidize the passes for the people that work at FCC so they only have to pay $9 for their pass!!! Sure I would definitely be buying a pass too if they were only NINE DOLLARS!
I hope they got some long term riders out of that pilot program and that it is over so they can foot their own bill for it.

I also wish the Smart Commute Plus plan worked for all loans. We chose a house that was near bus lines but found out the particular loan we were getting didn't qualify for this program. Some perk.
