The thing that makes me so very sad about the "It Gets Better" campaign in this instance is that Tyler Clementi probably thought that college was exactly when it was supposed to get better. Here he is, an adult away from home for the first time, able to date other men, and with his own place to be alone with them. And then he ends up in a situation worse than what he had hoped to leave behind when he went to college. He had only been at college for a few weeks, and he was probably so excited about what his life might be like. And then his roommate decided to show him how much worse he could make it. It just breaks my fucking heart.

You just want to go on wearing garments made of two different kinds of fabric, don't you? You troublemaker.Hey kids! I know you're pulling out some seemingly "random" quotes from the bible to illustrate a point, but those 2 are not so random.
Many religious Jews still observe both of those commandments :)The statute I chose wasn't chosen at random: it was chosen to illustrate the point that a major part of the value of following all of the seemingly arbitrary and archaic strictures contained in a thick religious text lies, not in the behaviors that those strictures produce, but in the insurance that they provide that we won't simply take religion to mean what we want it to mean. I would have thought religious Jews would be on board with that sentiment.
Sorry, I did not get that from your original post.
Understandable. I gather you're more used to "kids" making fun of religious texts than to adults who've gotten sick of seeing them used as cudgels.
Why do I have a terrible feeling that, since both stories are at the forefront of the current news media, fred phelps and the inbred WBC clan will picket this poor kid's funeral?
btw bear- i liked your placement of the word cudgel. well played :)

They might not get a chance since they're tied up in DC in front of SCOTUS right now defending their right to be idiots.
Former Rutgers Student Convicted in Webcam Spying Trial
A jury found a former Rutgers University student guilty of invasion of privacy and bias intimidation charges in the webcam-spying trial, deciding that he was motivated by homophobia when he streamed video of his roommate’s intimate encounter with another man.
It sets an interesting precedent. It also shows the power that social media can have, in a legal sense.
