Ive heard too many rumors of Max and Ermas closing. In fact there sign at their henderson and kenny location says " yes, were still open" or to some effect like that. Plus their latest menu changes seem like a last ditch effort.

They just opened a brand new one in Pickerington?

The kenny and henderson sign has read this way for a long while now. The reason being all of the main attraqctions in focal range in that complex are closed giving the appearance that the entire strip is empty. As for the franchise I plead ignorance, but it would be a shame. The kenny and henderson brunch is freekin awesome.

The Max N Erma's location at Henderson and Kenny will close for a short period soon so that the whole complex can be razed and rebuilt. The restaurant is not fully ADA accessible and the old Benchmark bldg is a blight as well. There are signs posted on Henderson in front of it showing what the new complex will look like and I think it is supposed to open by this fall.

I remember reading about a month ago that they are on the rocks financially and actually had to take out a loan to finish construction on the Pickerington unit. This may be why the Henderson location has not been rebuilt as the original demolition date was supposed to have been in August of 07.

I heard they are getting kicked off the NASDAQ for not posting enough earnings.

I was amazed they ever made it on NASDAQ to tell you the truth, and I helped underwrite the IPO.

I really like the new menu much better than the old one. The food seems fresher, higher quality and better for you. I hope that's not a last ditch effort!

The news coverage is all over teh place on M&E btw...
Here's a story of the delisting warning:

Here's a story of their bright future from 4 months ago...

well the new menu layout is a bit weird. the new round shape that has the tabs as a directory seems like their trying to reinvent themselves.i guess the term last ditch effort was a bit harsh. they always had light and healthy choices on their menu. the caribbean chicken is very good. i think it was maybe over the summer or the spring that they had the international items on the menu. the lasagna rolls were not very good along with the paella. but i continue to enjoy many of the items still on the menu. some of the best french onion soup in town.

Totally agree with you there. There's like 4 items each on 10 pages. I need an index to order properly.

Hope it is panic and hype.
I would really be upset if something were to happen to the German Village Max & Erma's. Besides being the first one, it's one of the few kid friendly places in the Village.

I really enjoy max and ermas. As far as that sort of restaurant is concerned i.e. Fridays, Applebees, Ruby Tuesdays they are all sort of the same. I think Max and Ermas at least has entrees that taste different.

they are.
the reason for it is this:

there was an article about it, i think in the dispatch, a few months back. IIRC they felt that the "family resturant with kitschy shit on the walls" market was getting too muddled and people feel that its all the same anyway. they wanted to reinvent themselves as a bit of a classier joint.
and supposedly they are bringing back the bathtub sundae station too.

Lame I would say rather than "same" concerning those three.
I still wonder what happened to Joe's Crab Shack.
Chains are biting the dust these days, too, not just privately owned Ma and Pas.
161 near Sawmill Road looks like Graceland used to.

Joes' Crab Shack = quite possibly the worst chain ever, or the worst restaurant ever period, I ate once in Toledo, and never again.

Never been as I've always assumed it to be Red Lobster for yuppies.

Just reading about Red Lobster makes me queasy. The last time I was wrangled into eating there (grandparents) I thought I was going to die from food poisoning.
