Columbus lost a really good guy tonight, and Columbus Underground lost a great friend.
RIP.
He will be missed. He was such a wonderful person. Keeping his close loved ones in my thoughts.
Heavy heart tonight :(
I only came to know Don and his wife just this past Summer. They were very encouraging with a little project I'm working on... super nice people. From what I gathered he was quite the man, fighting not only for his clients but for the beliefs he held in his heart. We lost one of the good ones and now all of us must step it up to fill the void he left -- and work for the causes he believed in.
It was always a pleasure to spend time with Don. A delightful guy—he'll truly be missed.
Wow, very sad news. Don was an excellent human, compassionate, passionate about justice and a sharp wit. My thoughts are with Lelia and his family. Very sad to hear of his passing. Did not see an obit in the Dispatch anyone know the details, was he sick?
I would expect obit tomorrow. Yes, cancer :(
Full obit to appear on Sunday.
Funeral/Shiva is Sunday, more info here:

Don was a fine human being and it was an honor to be his brother-in-law. There are some people whose lives touch so many in such profound ways. Don was one of those bright lights, one of those people you wish you could trade 10 or 20 regular people just to have back. :-] All we can do is try to cherish and pass on the bit of light he shared with us.

November 2011 Issue

One night in the early 1970s, a young Columbus lawyer named Bruce Campbell happened in on a get-together at a neighbors East Broad Street apartment across the park.
“I’ll never forget it,” Campbell said last week, of the first time he met Columbus legend, criminal defense attorney Don Ruben. “It was like taking a trip to New York. Here were these cool people, this really nice art on the walls, his shoes.”
