The 10TV website has an article about the Reynoldsburg police officers receiving instructions to write 18 tickets per officer per month. Looks like someone was not happy with being turned into a shakedown artist and they leaked the letter.
According to the article, officers who do not meet the "performance standard" (It's NOT a quota!) will receive 90-day evaluations and letters of counseling. I hope someone leaks one of those letters.

ThisWeek Staff WriterA significant drop in the number of traffic citations issued by Reynoldsburg police prompted Sgt. Steve Baughn to tell officers by e-mail last week they need to issue 18 tickets by the end of the month or they will "receive 90-day evaluation letters in addition to letters of counseling to start with."
Police Chief David Suciu and Mayor Brad McCloud said Monday there are no set quotas, although there are performance standards each officer needs to meet -- including traffic enforcement.

It just smells bad. They claim traffic issues are their #1 complaint - but where is this chorus of complaint? Does the story start with "Rising traffic complaints in Reynoldsburg have prompted police to..."
I like the puzzlement over the inexplicable drop compared to one year ago. Let's see, has anything else dropped in that same timeframe? I vaguely recall something about gas becoming cheaper because people are driving less.
It seems the citizens of Reynoldsburg have failed to step forward and provide more ticktable violations per driver mile, in this diminished economic environment. But the police will not let this affect their performance.

18 really doesn't seem like that high of a number though
this could be unfair to the officers
staff may be down, and my best guess is that with the down economy crime calls are definitely up
if police calls are not up however, and citations down... then i don't see a problem with this
from the outside looking in, it does seem unfair to the officers, and not a case of reynoldsburg trying to increase their money coming in... just keeping the money they once had current.
that's what i'd like to believe anyways.
