Yes - people are generally ignorant of nutrition (witness my coworker who thought that doing the Atkins diet meant eating nothing but bacon, sausage,
Get the Flash Video Jesus, that's funny. Mmmmmm sausage.

I so wish a picture of this lovely 'Merican family could be found.

Portion control and NATURAL produce. How can you eat a shiny apple?
Kids are getting thinner and thinner, so it leads me to believe it's kind of a generational thing, or whether or not your parents have come around to the health craze.

12oz or 16oz patties?i dont know what the hell that guy was talking about in that call,my package was 16 oz.just like Bob Evans' package.
one 16 oz sausage patty would be one goddam big patty!!
but hey,Texas is a big state.
btw,Bob Evans bought out Jimmy Dean a few years back.

That dude in the call seemed pretty irate. My favorite part was "how do you expect me to feed 600 pounds of men?".

16 percent of children (over 9 million) 6-19 years old are overweight or obese -- a number that has tripled since 1980. In addition to the 16 percent of children and teens ages 6 to 19 who were overweight in 1999-2002, another 15 percent were considered at risk of becoming overweight -CDC

No kidding.
Most of the ones I see look like half inflated beach balls that leak various fluids, scream and smell funny. Thanks for making me choke on my carrot when I guffawed over this. :)

I've seen that. What a startling statistic.

People tend to underestimate the number of calories that they consume, especially in larger portions.
(I'd link but this is an easy one to find on Google). I think people also don't realize how easy it is to fulfill their daily caloric requirements or how many calories they actually need. Programs like Weight Watchers can be really eye opening when you realize that you are eating half of the calories you need for the whole day in one "healthy" sandwich. I lack the willpower to stick to WW, but it's good to know ;)Posted 2 years ago # -
all kids do is sit and play video games while stuffing their face, and the parents are just glad they aren't botherring them.

Two cents --> I'm not really sure what the "Commit To Be Fit" program was minus renaming Marconi with that street sign and I've been in this city for 7 years and am a Nutrition and Dietetics major at Ohio State. I don't see how having a stacked board with just major restaurant chains is going to help anybody. Being fit is about both diet and exercise and I don't see how kids can exercise if their extracurricular programs are being cut or they live in an unsafe neighborhood where it isn't aren't safe to be outside. The other problem is accessibility to fresh food or cost. There are a lot of reasons why people eat crap. It's easy and it's cheap. The other key is education. Teach these kids how to cook a little or what portion sizes are. The other paradox with Columbus is the fact that there is both a hunger and obesity problem here.

I would also add takeasiesta, that access to information that is credible and sensible is tough. There is so much noise, outright lies and confusion about what to eat and how much to eat.
Programs like this one in Columbus contribute to the noise that ultimately helps fuel obesity.
