hating the flyer. The whole diagonal thing, combined with barely legible heading fonts (like "friends") almost made me type the same thing.
after deciphering looks like a great event though, so you'd be well-served typing it out for folks, IMO.

I'm going to offer 5 seconds of honest criticism then move on.
I clicked on this, because retail sales in the Short North interest me.
I ALMOST clicked away instantly because I was sure I'd clicked on some DJ night named Reduction...despite my initial reaction read on.
I realized it was actually a good thing, but was amazed I'd actually worked my way through the flier to find that information.
Great event.
Shitty flier.

this is a hard balance in design to push the envelope but not to confuse your target audience. most "graphic designer" websites i come across don't make ANY sense, but I have possibly less respect for the designers whose sites make complete sense (er... depending on how they do it)
now i spend a lot of time looking at design, and i didn't have any problems with this, but i can totally see how some people would. perhaps they're just trying to be creative or maybe appeal to the hoards of overcompensated designers who have discretionary spending left ;p

I don't think "cool looking" and "legible" should be mutually exclusive properties, especially in graphic design. Especially when designing an advertisement. I dig the colors & the shapes though, & that's a pretty groovy font. A little kerning might help it out a bit. Good luck with the sale!

Since it seems that your primary purpose is to promote events, maybe you should take people's constructive criticism to heart rather than getting pissed. If you can't effectively shove your marketing on us, what will you do all day?

Love this idea. I agree that the flyer does look more like a club flyer than a retail sales ad. Which has some pros and cons I reckon.
This is just my two cents... but typically when I post event information on ANY website, I'll post the flyer images and then also copy and paste the text from the flyer to go along with it. For those who want legibility, or the ability to copy & paste just the details to sent to someone, it makes it easy for them... but more importantly, the text is there for searchability.
So yeah, I'd leave the flyer as is, but also paste the standard text version of the details too.
People want options. Give the people what they want. ;)

Wow. I have to agree with certain other people; the flyer is pretty awful. The colors are boring and the font is hard to read. It's a great idea for an event, and I will definately be in attendance, but if I saw that somewhere, I would immediately ignore it thinking it was one of those annoying DJ ads I find on my car.
