Think I'm going to take my kayak down there, watch from the river. Anyone know a good place to put in?

If you were planning to camp out on the brick walkway along the Scioto Mile to watch Red, White & Boom on Tuesday night, think again.
The promenade that stretches from Broad Street to Rich Street will be roped off on Tuesday to protect the fountains and landscaping, officials say.

Pretty surprising. I thought the promenade was built for events like this, but I guess not.

With Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman’s go-ahead, Red, White & Boom attendees will be able to watch the show from the Scioto Mile promenade.
Last week, a spokeswoman for Promotions One, the company that organizes the fireworks show, said the promenade would be closed to protect its fountains and landscaping. The promenade runs along the Scioto River from Broad Street to Rich Street.
Amanda Leeman said a chain-link fence would be erected to keep people out of the area but not obscure the view.
Coleman overturned that decision on Friday, and the entire promenade will be open, Dan Williamson, the mayor’s spokesman, said today.

What I need is for all the vendors who set up along Nationwide to be open for lunch tomorrow. No one was ready last year & there were hoards of people from the surrounding offices out and about.
I need a corndog, people.

They also had a ton of power supply issues last year. I walked home to the Hilltop from downtown with the intentions of eating my way home at 2pm and no one except the funnel cake people had any, so I settled for just a funnel cake but man they had ice-cream cones that would have hit the spot.

I don't remember those from last year - it makes sense that they would provide something of that nature - doubly so, in light of the recent power sitch.

I'm going to be going to Red White and Boom in Columbus with some friends tomorrow and were all new to Columbus so we are looking for some suggestions as to where to park. Now were not going to be able to get downtown any sooner than 7pm since we have to wait for a couple of us that work. I've read that your advised to arrive early but what can you do with work. So what were looking for is any advice anyone has for parking where you can see the fireworks pretty good and that's not too bad to get to that late. If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks.

Thanks. You'd probably be fine to pick any random parking lot or garage on the east side of Downtown and walk a few blocks down to the Riverfront area. The fireworks don't go off until 10pm, so that give you three hours to wander around, get some fried food of your choosing and figure out a good spot to stand and watch.
The walk back to your car will be fast. The drive out of Downtown will be slow. Plan for it and take some good music to listen to in the car and you'll be fine.

^ Agree with this, as long as you're east of 4th street, you'll be fine. There aren't really any garages, but there should be plenty of on street parking, as most folks seem to try & get as close to the action as possible, and by 7pm, 4th street & anything west of it will be a hot mess. We watching long snaking lines last year to get into the garages around the former City Center, paying $10 a pop, when walking an additional block & a half would have netted free parking, and none of the wait.
I'd advise somewhere between 4th and Grant - it is a little bit of a walk to get down to the action, but it's fun to walk through downtown & get to see the city, and it makes a huge difference when it's time to leave. You'll be walking to your car & waiting in line to get on the highway before most folks are even out of garages.

Let's be safe tonight. Remember, you can buy Katy Perry's breasts in Ohio, but you must set them off in another state.
