How's the view from Goodale Park usually?
Posted 2 years ago # -
I would imagine pretty good. I've watched from South Front in the Brewery District before and had an ok view. They shoot them pretty high. ;)

I haven't decided yet, kind of want to ride downtown to the bike bridge area at long? then hit the short north or Tip top after/ or do sherm's roof. Maybe goodale. So many options! hmmmpft

We are either going to view the show from the Whittier Peninsula or go to the Lighthouse Church on S High St @ St Rt 104. I've heard the chruch is kid friendly place with great views and little traffic headaches. If the kiddos cooperate we may hit up the S. High Drive in for a flick afterwards.

I was wondering last night how much Red White And Boom cost. Anybody know?
Posted 2 years ago # -
a million freedom dollars. it's totally worth it.

I think it's obvious where I am going with this, but I don't see how we didn't cancel this, tradition or not. I'll take library funding over 25 minutes of fireworks.

I'll be there, and my family is visiting too! I'm still trying to pick a viewing spot with a healthy mix of good view and easy to get to/from given the insanity I'm guessing the downtown area will be experiencing.

No. Red, White & BOOM! is organized through contributions and promotional support of the event sponsors.
I'll take the tax revenue coming from the visitors who are here for those 25 minutes of fireworks.

I thought RW&B was financed privately?
Whatever it costs it's also a big 'ol advertisement for the city of Columbus. My family alone will be getting a hotel room, a couple of meals, maybe a souvenir, a tank of gas...whichever of those have a city tax on them will be money for Columbus as a direct result of the fireworks.

Where is the added police presence, street closures... etc coming from? Are you saying there is no money coming from the city for it? And I am not just saying this because I am effected, but the economic impact is more of a trade off. OUr neighborhood will do terrible today, so the corn-dog stand and glow stick man might be kicking more tax dollars in than usual, but we'll be kicking in a lot less.

I imagine that the sponsors are paying for the street closures, the police presence, etc.

I was curious if anyone else had further thoughts on watching them from Goodale Park. There are a lot of trees, so that concerns me, but we have a handicapped person and a baby going with us so we can't make it downtown. Also, are there bathrooms available? Thanks!

Thanks!According to the official Red White and Boom website, apparently Goodale Park is THE recommended non-downtown location.

If your at the Goodale end (think Offramp Stage), it's a good view. But years ago everybody got that bright idea, so it's not just neighbors, but suburbanites wanting to avoid downtown as well camping out there. I will just watch it from my porch on Hubbard and be fine with that.

kessler you should stop by the house for the fireworks. i will extend this invitation to others aswell. PM me if one is interested. ive been cloud watching all morning and the wind seems to be heading se which isnt the best for west side viewing. hopefully it will change.

I'm going to make my fortune selling firecrackers with longer-burning fuses, so you can light the fuse and hobble away on a walker.
