My '05 Nissan Sentra is making some strange noises, and it's admittedly overdue for a tune-up. Any suggestions on a fast, honest place (i.e. one that doesn't see a 20-something female as a walking dollar sign)?

In what general area are you looking?

Tommy Turbo is my main man for repairs. Saabs are his passion but he'll repair anything.
He operates out of a nondescript trailer near Grandview (across from Amicon's/down from the Kroger) so his overhead is obviously low and his traffic is largely word of mouth. They're not typically open the beginning of the week but do work weekends. I will never take my vehicle anywhere else. I've never felt taken advantage of and the prices are absurdly reasonable.
For a while every time I went to the (VW) dealer for my free oil change they would find something wrong. I would take the quote to Tommy and he'd fix only what really needed to be fixed and find the cheapest and safest way to do it. I remember one repair, I had cracked boots or something, he did it for nearly 1/4 of the dealer quote.

Trabue Garage. I've been going there for almost three years. They'll only fix what needs to be fixed. For a couple issues, they charged half or less of what Monro was going to charge. The prices are very reasonable. If they can't find anything wrong, they won't charge you for anything.

Dublin Road Auto Care is great. Terry (not sure what is actual job title but he's the main guy) is very personal and honest. He used to own the Shell on Lane and Northstar (which is now a bank) where I have taken my car to since i was 16.
The main belt in my car was squealing for years and when I asked him about it he told me it didn't need to be replaced and to put some sort of oil on it. He said if I really wanted to he'd replace it and gave me the price
about a year later when my mom took it to the dealer for a completely unrelated problem-long story as to why she did it and not me- the dealer replaced the belt(my mom ok'd the replacement) and charged me twice as much as terry had quoted.Posted 3 years ago # -
CARS in Clintonville. hey don't work on the weekend, but they've always been very reasonable for me, often giving me a list of things that could be fixed, things that should be fixed, and things that absolutely must be fixed.
When I had to get the entire engine replaced and was getting jacked around by my insurance company, we worked out payments and they took a post-dated check so I could get to wrok every day.
I really like them a lot.

As odd as it sounds because they're a tire dealer, the Goodyear on Sawmill across from the Kroger Marketplace has been my place to go for about 4 years. I had a tranny slipping and fluid pouring out so I couldn't get it to my regular place. Certainly an opportunity to take me to the cleaners, but it ended up being $106 worth of labor, hose and replacement fluid.
Since then, I've gone there for almost everything (brakes, oil changes, batteries) and been satisfied. What sealed it for us was when my wife's van would start consistently when I was out of town on business, they knew right away that the store where we got the battery hadn't tightened some auxiliary correctly, they took 5 minutes and fixed it without charge.Posted 3 years ago # -
I recently had a good experience at Wilson's Auto Svc, 95 N. Grant Ave. It's downtown though so it might be a bit of a trip for you. They were straightforward, fast, and reasonable. I plan on going there in the future.

Northend Wrench on Indianola. I've lost track of the number of people I know who go there. They must be doing something right.

Beebe, thanks for the Dublin Road rec. I ended up taking it there today. The guys were super-nice, almost grandfatherly. Showed me exactly what was wrong and the price seemed fair. They did lecture me a bit when they saw a Jiffy Lube receipt in my car, but guilty as charged...
