Nope... born in Terre Haute, Indiana and grew up in Marysville. I've only lived in Columbus proper for the last 8 years.
I like to think I've been adopted by the city though. 8)

I think you all misunderstood me.
I didn't mean to offend anyone or imply that you have to live downtown to post on this board.
Columbus, and this board as well, welcomes everyone with open arms. But only a select few will know what it means to be truly UNDERGROUND.
And if you live outside the outerbelt then you can only hope to catch a glimpse of the true underground life on this board, because it is far beyond your reach.
And you 206ers are alright in my book, just be cool when you stroll up in our hood. 8)
But only a select few will know what it means to be truly UNDERGROUND.
WTF does that even mean?
here we go again. i do agree with the last post. what does that mean that only a few know what the true underground is? oh well. i can't wait to see more comments on this.
My zip is 43206, (Brewery District). When I moved here it was the un- named wasteland west of German Village!!!!! Gambrinus was still brewing on the corner of Front and Sycamore!!! Where do I fit in??? I feel like I live downtown .......
I think Paul makes a good point about knowing the true underground. I went to Martini's up by Polaris the other night. Ordered the lasagna and it was alright. I ordered a salad too, which was good, but not great. The free bread was okay. The overall experience was decent, though I have to wonder if I went to the Martini's downtown how different would my experience have been?

That still doesn't sound very welcoming or inviting. We still need more people moving downtown, and alienating them is NOT the way to do it.

Perhaps the dining crowd would have been cooler? haha
The board is called Columbus UNDERGROUND. If all of Central Ohio is to be considered underground, then what is above ground?
I disagree with Walker that it is not very inviting. I think that this board and downtown in general are both very welcoming. What we need is more people moving down here so that they can experience the underground, not living out the outskirts of Franklin county and just talking about it on the internet.
Dan, like I said before, I certainly didn't mean to offend any 206ers, I wasn't thinking of the Brewery District when I made my original post and I apologize.
honavery, if I have to explain to you what it means to be undergound then that kind of defeats the point, doesn't it?

No physical boundaries can define a concept like "underground", and I'll never attempt to limit this site in any way pertaining to physical boundaries. Columbus is columbus. Downtown is downtown. German Village is German Village. OSU is OSU.
Being "underground" is a state of mind, no matter who you are or where you live or what your hobbies are. So quit worrying about geography and just get on with BEING.

I wasn't saying my site or this city were not welcoming... I said that YOUR COMMENTS are not welcoming to people. When you try to define people based on WHERE THEY LIVE and not WHO THEY ARE, you start alienating. What happens when you have someone who is very cool and a big cultural contributor to our city and they live right on the other side of the artificial "underground border" you've created? Do you write them off as not being "underground" or do you change your borders? I think the whole boundary thing is a waste of time.

I agree. But we need to use better tactics to draw people downtown instead of just alienating those people on the internet. Few people are going to feel the need to move just because one person on the internet is saying that they're uncool where they currently live. Most people would feel that as threatening (as seen by many posts in this thread) since your home is a large part of your identity and people tend to take pride in where they live. So your comments end up sounding more like an insult to people who don't live downtown instead of any sort of reasonable logic on why they should relocate as your neighbor.
There are DOZENS of great reasons that people should move downtown. I've not heard you name a single one yet.
the pressure to become truly UNDERGROUND is too much for me. i could try leaving the sanitized confines of clintonville and moving downtown, but then what if paul doesn't like my sunglasses or mp3 collection? what other hurdles will i have to clear to be deemed worthy?
at the same time, it is hard to stay in clintonville knowing that others think i'm a failure because i'm not able to be truly UNDERGROUND.
i feel i have no other choice but to move away from columbus altogether. and that's what i plan to do.
My current zip code is 22903 (Charlottesville, VA). (Before that, it was 43210 (which was cool both because it's a "countdown" and because it was OSU).) So if the rest of you are somewhere between "real" underground and "fake" underground, I'm somewhere between the mesosphere and exosphere.
