just thought i'd let everyone know the new theater at Polaris opens this friday, August 5th. There is one other Rave Theater in ohio- it's between dayton and cincinatti off of I-75, and it's ok. quality of the current theater is on par with the amc lennox, easton, or arena grand. if i remember correctly the prices were a little bit higher than the columbus market when i went to the other rave theater, hopefully they try to match the market prices here in columbus (for their sake). i'll probably write a review of the theater in celluloid trailer park next week.

Been watching this being built - as the press release says, it'll be nice when it's done as it's yet another step in making the Polaris area a "one stop shop".
I'm a little concerned about what it'll do to Marcus -- that seems pretty closeby for another major theater complex, and Marcus has already been in somewhat of a decline (or at least appears to be from a non-insider point of view). Of course, if Rave doesn't stick with the typical Columbus market movie prices, maybe most folks will just keep opting for Marcus...

Anne & I got to check this place out yesterday and overall we weren't too impressed. The decor was decent and the seats were comfy, but it was about how you would expect any new theater to look. There wasn't much to distinguish it from being an AMC. Had nearly an identical layout to the Lennox from what I saw....
I don't see myself going here too much just because I don't live very close and there's nothing to distinguish it from other theaters. It's not a bad theater, just nothing special in my opinion....

Marcus has an IMAX, but have they been doing much with that lately? I can't even think of the last time I heard of a movie coming out specifically for IMAX theaters.
As for Rave, I thought the front of it looked really nice, but the bathrooms were pretty messy already and they don't even have automatic toilets. I thought every new theater was going to those. Looked like they had a decent arcade, but the food was all regular fare. Nothing special like the Arena Grand has; and even at Easton you can get beer if you want it. (perhaps they have it and I just missed it though?)
It was interesting that the movie started right on time...so I was wondering if they don't show previews or if they start them before the posted movie time?

Marcus (at Crosswoods at least) no longer has an IMAX -- they took out the IMAX sound system and IMAX projection equipment and converted that theater into the "Ultra Screen", which is just another regular movie screen, only really, really big, with more uncomfortable seats than your regular theater, and seating that at least feels much closer to the screen.
My wife and I checked out the new Rave theater this weekend as well, and had pretty much the same perceptions otherwise -- just another theater, nothing that spectacular. I actually thought it was a bit TOO gaudy and neon-y in the entrance/lobby - it looks cool from outside, but inside is way overdone. It reminds me a lot of a Cinemark theater - Marcus and AMC theaters both seem a lot "nicer" - even the simple small detail of carpet in the lobby helps those pass Rave.
The theaters themselves were nice - on par with AMC or Marcus.
As for the movie start-time, I wasn't paying super-close attention to my watch, but I do think the previews started early -- and there WASN'T a slew of non-movie preview ads preceeding them either. Points for that.

The drop of the movie commercials is a plus for me too, but I don't think it is enough to make me want to go up to Polaris to watch movies.
Is there even much going on at Crosswoods anymore? I haven't been there in awhile, but it sounds like not much is there...

I was up at Crosswoods pretty recently, seems like things are going pretty well up there. The Winking Lizard was packed on the thursday I was there.
Also, I think people are spoiled here as far as movie theatres go. Easton, Marcus, and the Arena Grand are SUPER nice when compared with about 95% of theatres in the country. I was talking to someone who grew up about 30 minutes east of Cleveland, they have to drive 30-40 minutes to get to a theatre with stadium seating. Even when I lived in Dayton, I can only think of one theatre that had it. And it was built in the last 5 years.

Crosswoods is holding up OK... there are several empty restaurant buildings in the front which are an eyesore, but the new mini-strips they built are nice -- the Indian place there (Tandoori Palace maybe?) wasn't too bad, the Mark Pi's is basically an express without the express name, and yet another Cold Stone for the area (which seems to do pretty good business).

Easton has made one of their theaters into an IMAX. It will feature mainstream films that have been formatted for IMAX, the first offering being Batman Begins.

I wonder why they won't be showing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's IMAX version -- that's what the other AMC IMAX screens are showing currently...?
Any idea when it will be open?
Good to hear that there's going to be an IMAX in town again at least...

Really? I didn't know that. Batman on that big of a screen would be awesome. Do you know if they obtained a specially formatted print, or if they are just playing it on the larger screen?

I read this theater dropped their price of an adult evening movie ticket from $8 to $6.
I don't go there hardly at all, but that is nice.
$8 and up for a movie is just way too expensive, in my opinion
