Rancho Alegre - opening in Northern Columbus

Rancho Alegre should be opening soon on Cleveland Avenue, close to I-270 and across from a long defunct Fudruckers. Purporting to offer Authentic Mexican Food, the restaurant will be nestled in a former TGI Fridays, now vividly repainted in bright colors.

While no opening date is posted, and their claim to authenticity is yet to be proven, I look forward to another new international inspired business opening in this part of town.

Do you know if this is the same owners as the Rancho Alegre on Dublin Road and Grandview Ave (where the Tee Jayes used to be)?

John, that's a great question, but I didn't want to poke my head in the door the day I took the shot. I'm hoping to catch someone outside soon and bend their ear a bit, unless you want to dig deeper via your contacts. I did a quick web search and found zilch.

The color scheme is the same as the Grandview one. Next time Rockmastermike and I are in there, I'll ask. If this is the case, they ARE an authentic, family-owned establishment. Damn tasty food, too.

That's what made me wonder if they were related, "...now vividly repainted in bright colors." :)

Good to hear they're expanding if it is them (I have to imagine it is them and not a mere coincidence). After hearing nothing but good things, we finally recently became fans of the location at Grandview Ave & Dublin Road. Good stuff. :D

Just had lunch at the Grandview location and asked about the one up north. They said it was, indeed, the same owners and that it was supposed to open in about a month and a half.

Not open yet, Walker. There was still brown paper on the windows when I drove by today. There seems to be someone working there on a daily basis, deFridaying the interior.

It seems to be a general rule that if a Mexican place touts "Authentic Mexican Food", it isn't.

I'd love for someone to prove me wrong. but until then I'll be getting my Mexican fix at La <something> <something> in the Westland Mall shopping center co located with a Mexican Grocery.

I was there once, need to try it one more time.

Bman and Tenzo, I'm not sure how this will stack up to other restaurants, or even their other location on Dublin Road, as I've never been there. When they start serving their "Authentic Mexican Food", I'll have something to test their claim after I sink my teeth into it. I am skeptic of premature authenticity signs as well. I hope they live up to their claim. :]

For what it's worth, my two experiences (both for lunch) at the one on Dublin Road were OK, but not stellar. My first time was just not good at all (service and food), so I thought I'd give it another try. The service was better the second time; the food was alrightÃ¢â‚¬â€it was comprable to that of El Vaquero, which is good in it's own right, but I wouldn't compare it to the likes of what Tenzo is talking about (which is down the street from our house). And if I had my choice between El Vaquero and Rancho Allegre, I think I would have to choose the former.

I've always had great meals and service at the Dublin Road location.

The Molcajete is incredible, I like the Enchiladas Rancheras (cheese enchiladas with carnitas/onions/peppers on top.)

Giant GIANT drinks too, win win all around.

I really wasn't a fan when I went to the location on Dublin Rd. I'd place them well below El Vaquero. I don't recall what I got, but it came with a side of french fries, WTF! Drinks are huge, I made the mistake of a getting a jumbo margarita - the drink was bigger than my head!

I tried this place out last Friday on Dublin Rd, it got a meh on the food scale, but I feel that way about every Mexican restaurant in town so I know it says more about me than them. However, the service was great and good prices on booze. If they had some outdoor seating I'd take serious advantage of their happy hour specials.
